Marvel Cinematic Universe Figure Discussion

The Marvel bubble has definitely burst, so Hasbro has to adjust for that. But because they've been so late to market (Marvel's fault), they haven't been able to really rollout an MCU product launch correctly since I think GOTGv3.

Their total product for FF was good and offered variety - except most made it to shelves months late while the MLs never hit clearance because Hasbro either didn't make enough or made the exact right amount (either way, not really available for the casual customer). Tbolts only got two expensive products that hit four months late and both featured heavy re-use of an existing figure - of course they're going to hit clearance.
With that being said I can't help but wonder if Hasbro has become far more conservative with what they're willing to do for live action. We all know about the deep clearance for things like Eternals, Multiverse of Madness and the Disney+ wave figures - but even when they seemingly dialed back for things like Brave New World and Thunderbolts those figures didn't perform much better at retail and could be found discounted more than 50% relatively easily not long after release. The A-list re-releases of Spider-Man, Iron Man and Cap don't seem to have sold well either.
Clearly more conservative. But - BNW had expensive fake "Deluxe" releases that didn't even offer unmasked heads for the characters or, in the case of Hulk, feature a correct likeness at all. See my Tbolts comment above and also note: they didn't make close to the full team, so that means some people stay away completely.

The A-List figures sell through. If they didn't, we wouldn't be on cycle three. Cap is almost gone from my stores but still awaiting space for Amazing.
However, choosing to not ever even offer any type of live action figure for titular characters in their own televised series like Echo and Werewolf by Night (and at least so far Wonder Man) probably already really tells me all that I need to now.
Add in Ironheart and a pattern seems to appear, but Agatha also got skipped. We can argue show quality and that's definitely valid in relation to all of these projects.

I just want my MCU figures back!!

I'm sorry to only respond to one thing that i want to correct but I don't think the Yelena/Red Guardian set had heavy re-use, surprisingly.

Eh. I agree about the height stuff being an issue, but ah well I guess. I just need a handful of X-Men characters then I'm done with the MCU figures anyway.

I'm a sucker for Red Guardian. He's one character that they could do over and over and I'll probably keep buying. I actually prefer them to be a little different in size and other features.

I have this same issue with most of the Spider-Man Goblin and Symbiote villains and definitely with any type of X-Men Sentinel.

Does anybody use any stand-in figures (eg black series etc) for these missing MCU characters until we got official releases??

I have purchased a few black series figures along the way with the sole purpose of fudging them into the collection as 'close/cool enough' figures whilst I wait for the officials.

Examples?

I used to do this as a kid, but mostly because we couldn't afford any other figures, so my collection would be a mish-mash of properties and styles. I had Hulk stand in for Bane, I think I had the Man-Bat from The Batman, alongside some live action ones, etc. I don't really do it much anymore, though, if only because 'm far too picky about things nowadays and it would probably drive me nuts, unless it was actually a figure of that actor in another role. 😅 The closest I really have nowadays isn't MCU at all, but I have X3 Jean Grey standing in for Sofina in my little D&D movie display., at least until I can find/create a better custom.

So beyond, like, the BW Tasky and AM&TW Ghost standing in for their Thunderbolts versions, not really. But I'd be interested to see what, if any, substitutions you've made!

For TBS, I have Jude Law's head on Yon-Rogg and Luthen's head standing in for Selvig, but once Hasbro made Jane Natalie I didn't need Padmes anymore.

Here's Selvig, along with my normal-sized Cassie solution:
Cassie-Selvig.jpg

Cassie is really simple - Quantumania Wasp body with Quantumania Ant-Man helmet. If I really cared I would swap her shoes to Converse from Ms. Marvel but I didn't feel like it. Selvig almost works except that body has such odd proportions - the upper body is too squat for those legs, so I'm always looking for a better match. Thought about the D&W Logan fig for the height but it would need a lot of modification.

I haven't painted this yet, but this works for me also:

Stole this idea from someone and I'll probably put the gear vest back on him, but the small size in this case actually works for Steve. The beard doesn't, but eh.

I put a Luthen head on a Old Man Xavier body (suit body with cardigan) to make Selvig. The body is too small, as Skarsgard is a tall dude, but there aren't a lot of options with that stature in ML.
