McFarlane DC Multiverse

As others have said, Netflix at its core, is a streaming company. They will by nature be inclined to put everything on a digital platform in some capacity. All so that the algorithm can dictate the next move. Disney wasn’t like that back when they bought Marvel. Maybe they are today. Or at least heading that direction.

And with the advances in AI, I see the algorithm only getting stronger.

I don’t want digital comics. Ever.
But for the same reason Netflix bought Millarworld years ago is the same reason they would be inclined to leave it alone.

They have their own in-house IP generation with first right of refusal.

DC already let go of its New York office.

I’d be more worried about Trump administration making it hard for them to not b forced to sell off DC

This.

Folks can “not be worried about politics” all they want, but “politics” is coming for them all the same.
A head in the sand merely makes one easier to fool and roll over.

I’ve decided to scrupulously avoid politics and social issues on this forum. I will not engage. Period. I just don’t think it’s necessary to fight the culture war on all fronts all the time.

To me, it’s either or. Paramount could close down DC Comics just as easily as Netflix. And that, again, is my main concern. The media stuff will find a home. Our weekly fix of four color glory is in serious jeopardy. And I don’t care which multi billion dollar media conglomerate buys it. I’m just glad the Saudis are out.

I'm going to propose something:

We all wait and see.

At this point, getting ourselves worked up in conjecture will benefit no one. Let us not forget that there are still shareholder and regulatory approvals to go through yet. This may not even happen. And if it does, and comics are killed, we cross that bridge when we get there.

But I don't think we will get there, I really don't. There isn't anything to worry about until there's something to worry about.

Also, yes...that Saudi comment was a political statement all in and of itself. Lol

Shaming hypocrisy and disingenuousness is important.

That said, here’s something to converse about re: Netflix, WB and comics:

Then find another forum.

I try not to be that guy, and I certainly am not in the business of being unwelcoming to anyone coming here, but fuck that noise.

Because we get political here. We're GOING to get political here. We will continue to get political here. You don't have to partake, but you certainly aren't going to dictate what we discuss on this forum.

Besides, not sure if you've noticed or if you've been living off of the grid, but our hobby is being very much affected by politics and stupid politicians. So, it's applicable.

I don't mean to be a dick, I really don't. But you've been here long enough to know that we are going to go off the rails a little bit. And most of us here are aligned politically, that it's going to come in discussion and during rants.

Also: this is a merger in which the current government has expressed a preference in who does the buying and the owning, and has also professed a stake in their preferences being used in the production of content.

While politics and big business (and art, sorry not sorry but all art is inherently political) are inextricable in general, this particular issue is *highly* political simply by the nature of what is going on in the macro and the micro.

Again: one can choose to ignore that fact, or downplay it, or attempt to obfuscate one’s own sociopolitical preferences, or all of the above . . . but none of that changes the facts.

The WB acquisition is INTENSELY political.

Deal with that or don’t. I’ll be living in reality.

(should go without saying, but I say all this as a forum MEMBER, not a moderator. When it is time to moderate, y’all will know. But yeah if you haven’t picked up the antifascist vibe around this place yet, here’s a good place to start)

Well, you’re being that guy.
Seriously, this is a forum about McFarlane DC Multiverse toys. I’m not sure how that encompasses your politics. I get enough politics everywhere else on the internet. We really can’t just talk about toys here?

Living in reality. On a toy discussion forum. Super serious stuff.
I have picked up on your “antifascist” vibe. It would be impossible not to. Which is part of my point. I don’t care about your politics. I want to discuss toys. Is there not a forum here that is devoted to politics? Most forums try to keep this stuff separate.
