G.I. Joe Classified Series: The Chatty Pointless Thread & Performance Art

I grabbed Night Viper today.
Or, rather, my Amazon Night Viper arrived today. I just couldn't wait for EB to get him in, even though it would have been cheaper for me.

'Reviewing' a Classified figure, at this point, feels pointless. It's always some version of saying 'this figure is as advertised.' It's a good figure. I like it a lot. I would still absolutely love to get a slightly beefier version without the chest armor - a real ARAH remake. But I like this figure a lot. Eventually, I'll need to find a weapon for him. Some kind of shotgun or something. I really don't love the giant monocular night vision paired with a scoped sniper rifle. To me, this design feels more like someone hiding in the shadows and clearing enemy positions in the darkness than sniping. And that's how I always used the vintage toy as well.

Got my SCREAMING LUNATIC Crazy Legs at lunchtime. Immediately cracked him open to try out the spare Mainframe and spare Falcon heads I had waiting for him. Both look at fit perfectly, but as has been pointed out, the helmet's a little loose on Mainframe... but I actually found it easier to swap on and off the Mainframe head than I did Falcon, so I'm using MF's head instead. Maybe Crazy Legs and Mainframe are cousins. Or maybe they just fall into that "all white guys look alike to me" thing. In any event, Crazy Legs is great. Mine did have VERY stiff ratcheted knees that needed some hot water, and his right arm wants to slide out of the socket at the bicep swivel a little bit but it's not bad, just leaves a bit of a gap there if I don't push it back in.

Now I need to decide what to do with the NF Falcon head I bought expressly for this swap though. I could put it on the old Lt. Falcon body but I don't hate the OG one as much as everyone else does. I do have a spare Greenshirt body I bought to try to make a "young Tommy Arashikage" figure but the unmasked Stormshadow head from the movie figure uses a much bigger peg than the more modern figures.

Obviously it doesn't bother you, but try the NF Falcon head on the Lt Falcon body.

I think Crazy Legs should be getting here Monday. I lost track. Definitely gotta look through the spare heads I have, probably from cops or Green Shirts.

Bigger circumference heads work best for CL, the Greenshirt is pretty bulbous, should be worth a try.
Do you mean Falcon or someone else for the bulbous matchup? I found visually Falcon and MF looked equally good on CL but as you mentioned before the helmet's a bit loose on MF... I just happen to prefer it a little looser to swap it out but that's a personal preference. Havn't looked at the head swap for the greenshirt yet because I had a beast of a time removing the head from the neck peg when I was swapping out the head for a possible Law custom (I popped the barbell out of both the white cop and white greenshirt by accident and couldn't get it back together again).

I did use NF Falcon, personally, after trying Mainframe. I do like Mainframe’s head better for the project, but I found that the helmet was loose on that head such that it was deformed when the goggles were stretched over it and just looked weird, so I went with the head that I thought made the gear look best, since I’ll never take the helmet/goggles off. Haven’t actually tried the Greenshirt yet but I may at some point. The cop and Greenshirt heads are a bitch to get off the neck provided, but with heat and patience it is indeed possible.

Had a realization today about my collecting habits for this line and what I get most psyched about as I as setting up Crazy Legs, who is, well, NOT a subtle color palette, right? I'm definitely an O13 fan, love my greenshirt gang, friggin' overpaid for a missile launcher to get greenshirt Hawk. But the characters I've been refreshing my shipping info on like a crazy person are NOT OG greenshirts, I'm like, all fired up to have CL, Sci-Fi, Mainframe, Lifeline, Wetsuit. Spirit and Shockwave live on my desk.

But what I realized is: comic book reader, absolutely love the OG cast, love the CHARACTERS, but I was so young when the greenshirts came out I have no actual memory of owning them for more than like, three fucking minutes before I lost or broke them. But those later guys? They survived until my parents' house burned down in my 20s. so I've got this funky push-pull between those two eras of characters.

Which I suppose is a long-winded way of saying this line is actually hooking me up with replacement figures from two entirely separate parts of my childhood. So hurry up and make Spearhead and Muskrat, Hasbro, we need them. Gatling Gun Rock n Roll, STAT.

Ooooh THIS.
Except, for me, maybe like three entirely separate?
-when I was really young and my mom didn’t want me to have “war toys” so I only wound up with a couple of early things like Snake-Eyes v1, Zartan and the Vamp v2 that I got as gifts, and I *loved* the first cartoon miniseries.
-when I was a little older, and got the whole 1987 villains roster after Mindbender and BAT, then Serpentor and Hooded Cobra Commander and was off to the races for a few years, Defiant and such.
-junior high/high school, when I had way more control over spending money and loved the weird 90s stuff even as I was bummed with neon weapon-trees and intrusive action features.

. . . and then there’s the eras of my *adult* life that this line reflects . . .

I wasn't buying stuff during the neon trees and intrusive action features eras, but my brothers were, so I have some secondary love for the Ninja Force and such era.
