General Marvel Legends

It's Uncanny 185+ onward, I think. Right after whenever Lifedeath happens. Some sucker finds a necklace that houses the spirit of Kulan Gath, as soon as someone wears it he takes over Manhattan and everything goes crazy, like a proto Inferno. Except for Spider-Man, who is strangely immune to it and is already on Gath's shitlist for some reason and so gets crucified. Plus Selene gets the no-mouth/tentacle arms treatment.

I'm telling you, this post-Dark Phoenix/pre-Mutant Massacre period I've been working through is nuts.

Last year I re-read every issue of X-Men from Lee and Kirby in 1963 all the way through Age of Apocalypse. And that includes all the crossovers, annuals and minis.

Honestly, from 1975 through about 1992, that was the greatest run ever. They didn't always hit a home run with every issue but for the most part it was a masterpiece.

One of my other takes from the part I'm at the moment is it's painful to see how far JRJR's art has fallen off over the years. Comparing his work on Uncanny here with the AMS stuff he's doing today, oooof. Dunno if it's old age or modern inking/colouring not jiving with his style or what but it's night and day.

Kulan Gath is after Spider-Man because of stuff that went down when they met in Marvel Team Up 79 (published in 1978)

When he did the Apocalypse and the horsemen story in Uncanny Avengers, none of my friends believed me that it was Romita when I shared the preview art.

If you've never read Marvel Team-Up 79, it's the story that sets up all the events in that storyline of Uncanny. Spidey and a Red Sonja possessed Mary Jane fight Kulan Gath! It's fantastic!

Busiek and Perez revisited the Kulan Gath stuff in their Avengers run, and it's worth a read as well!

I keep almost picking up Red Sonja and Conan figures to go with my MLs and then backing off. I really should pull the trigger, they're perfectly acceptable in a Marvel display!
You can't go wrong with most of the Conan figures out there. I think the nicest one I have is the Frazetta Girls version. On the lower end are just about any of the Super7 versions.

I have both the LooseCollector and Boss Fight Studios Red Sonja figures, and no contest, BFS is the better figure. LC's isn't awful, but it's more expensive, has looser joints, and overly exaggerated proportions. BFS has better proportions, similar but smoother articulation that's better integrated into the sculpt, and can change outfits.

I feel those characters, like the horror guys like Dracula and Franky, don't really fit with the Marvel display given they are licensed characters that have their own story outside of Marvel. I know they did some crossovers but it seems weird to me, like if they had a comic where WWII Captain America meet Indiana Jones, that doesn't mean Indiana goes on my Marvel shelf.

I think in Conan's case it was more than just a crossover, right? Conan was a member of the Savage Avengers. You literally can't have a display for that storyline/team without him.
