U.S. Politics

I don't know how many Democrats could've beaten Trump last year.
And we can't know because Democrats don't take the process of choosing someone seriously, and they don't respect what people actually want. I still believe Bernie would have beat Trump the first go-round, but the DNC chose Hillary. The entire process is a sham. If establishment democrats want Harris to be the nominee, she just will be. Whether they do the dog-and-pony show of having primaries or not becomes irrelevant.

Assuming they primary her. That's the problem with these being basically private institutions that don't actually answer to the American people; they can just choose not to. They can say 'she is our candidate, get behind her or you hate America.' Like they did when Biden stepped down. Like they did BEFORE Biden stepped down, to be fair.
Some circles say it's Tucker or Rogan after Trump and make horrifying cases for it.

I actually kind of fucking hate this, but our only hope may -actually- be if John Stewart runs for president.

We may have reached the 'people will only vote for celebrities' stage of Idiocracy.
Every time I hear about Katy Perry and Trudeau it's like I'm hearing it for the first time because I just thought it was a skit or something that SNL made and my brain just resets again. I might need to get the Memento style tattoo to remind myself.

The next election is the test. Are we so internet-pilled that we can only vote for famous people? Do credentials matter anymore?

I have a feeling the next president will swing in the opposite direction because of how we collectively feel about Trump, but I wouldn't be surprised if we dig our heels in and do it again.

Probably.

Do credentials matter anymore?
That was answered in 2016.

While my primary fear is still 'will we even have legitimate elections anymore?,' my side-fear is that Trump has let the evil out in a way we can't put back in the box, embolded the worst people by showing them that their votes can destroy the people they hate, and has simultaneously disenfranchised all the people that thought we were better than this and now don't even feel like there's value in fighting against it in the voting booth. And there might not be if the insinuation by Musk that this election was -actually- stolen has any merit.

It's cliche at this point to say it, but verily my friends, these are uncertain and scary times.
