U.S. Politics

I know you're going to tell me the process of converting polling to dumbass voters doing the right thing is arduous at best, and I agree with you.
I'm not going to say that at all. I'm going to say it doesn't even matter. Republicans, particularly in the last 10 years, but certainly in the last 25 years, have so thoroughly broken every institution we rely on that I don't think even smart, well-intentioned people can fix even a third of it before the NEXT big Republican victory comes along and destroys it all again.

I think it's an endless backslide of 1 step forward, 5 steps back. We've been losing for generations and now we're seeing the fruits of that. I don't think it's necessarily even POSSIBLE to fix it all in 20 years, let alone the MAYBE 2-4 we'd actually get. And that's assuming the best possible candidates in every position, which we also won't get, and a lack of obstruction from OTHER Democrats, which we ALSO won't get.

Trump announcing his own version of the Hunger Games is so deeply past the point of parody I don't even have the words for it. We are living amongst the stupidest mammals to ever inhale oxygen in the history of life itself.

You know the hunger Games isn't even the worst part of that article. Everything else accompanying that celebration was new to me.

Good news, we do know how the Hunger Games ends. Let's go unenthusiastic JLaw.

Yeah, I don't see how you actually walk back or fix any of this. The masks are off. The agendas are out there. And they run a lot deeper than you'd hope.

I don't know how you make peace with it, let alone progress with that kind of willing ignorance and hate.

My 15 yo step-son asked if we were at the end of Trump's term yet. When I explained we had 3 more years he asked if we'd be able to fix everything he broke. I pointed out that minimally the world's trust in the US to not elect another Trump is broken i definitely. Merry Christmas, kid!
So it warms my heart that the kid was hopeful it was almost over because that means kids his age have some hope left and I love that, but man... I do not envy you explaining that we have three more years (at least) of this.

Yeah. And keep in mind 3 years is 1/5 of his life to date. On the plus side, I think he's more parroting me and/or his mom when he asks about how bad Trump is. I don't know that his peers and his online sources are anti-Trump. Being a 15 yo boy today must be exhausting.

Edit to note: By plus side I mean I don't think he has personally strong opinions either way. I don't think he agrees with us enough to be in a state of despair.

My baby sister's fiancee is Irish. They were in Asia. She came back to America and he went to Ireland to go make some money before rejoining her.

He cannot rejoin her due to this administration. He can't even get clearance for the holidays because the relationship makes him a risk to be illegal.

I think I played that Grand theft auto.

I wanna play the illegal Irish immigrant game!
