NECA 2012 Turtles

Got the remainder of my Turtles today.

Ya know, after all of that, I was planning on having "Ninja" versions, as well as the normal faces displayed.

But not sure I need them. These might be heading back to WallyWorld.

I finally received the remaining four figures from my NECA direct order. Sent via UPS, packaged very neatly and securely. At least they did that right. The rest of the experience was amateur hour and will definitely prevent me from ever ordering directly from them again. Certainly not items with a wide release.

I have Garfello preordered direct only because I didn't realize he was going to be a wide release. From now on it's ONLY going to be exclusives from their site until it's proven things get improved.

My 2012 shipment from NECA arrived and everything was in the box - no partial order here. I just opened everything up to make sure I don't have any major QC issues or missing parts. My Dr. Cluckenstein has a broken toe, but otherwise everything seems to be in order. Some tight joints in places, mostly with Shredder. His paint isn't quite as clean as the turtles, but not terrible. Raph has some red on his cheek that I'll have to try and remove. The top scabbard on Leo is really tight and I can't get a sword into it, but I didn't have any issue with Donatello's bo holder which I saw numerous complaints about. All of the gripping hands are super tight to the point where I don't want to try and get any weapons in there without heat. I also hate how it's 2025 and we still can't count on NECA to provide the proper wrist articulation for sword wielders (and sai, and nunchuk). Could we really not get into the budget two sets of gripping hands with different wrist orientation? Articulation in general seems so-so, but not vastly different from standard NECA stuff so it's not unexpected.

Overall, the look is definitely there and that's what NECA is aiming for. I don't think I've encountered this sculptor before, May Thamtarana, but they did an excellent job with the turtles. I just wish Raph's skin tone was closer to the show and that we got a different alternate portrait for Leonardo. That still kind of ticks me off.

Oh, you've definitely seen May's work before. Dude is one of my favorite sculptors working today.

I mostly assumed I had, but these companies are so bad at providing credit that it's hard to know. I don't have Instagram, but I can see some of that and can see he's been working with Mondo, and yeah, his stuff is great. Mondo and NECA are the only companies I see consistently put names on boxes for things like sculpt. I wish everyone else would follow their lead.
