McFarlane DC Multiverse

God, what I wouldn’t give for a well made, fully articulated set of Danger Girls. One of the first things I did when I got my emulator up and running was play the Danger Girl video game all the way through. The hardcover collection is also one of the few physical comic books I have left. I loved how fun and cheesy the original series was.

😂 “hoopty” 😂 That became one of my go to slang words after seeing Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “My Hoopty” video.
I sometimes think I'm the last person using "hoopty" in regular conversation. :D

As much as a knock some of Todd's stuff, he's probably the only one I could see getting a Danger Girls line and yeah, I'd buy them. I still have the old barely articulated ones from a billion years ago in a box somewhere.

Mine are on a shelf right in front of me. :) Still look great!

Sure, the arm and leg articulation could be improved, but would any company make these to the correct aesthetic these days? The proportions and likenesses all match the source very well and outside of Japanese manga statues, no company seems to be doing this style.

And I really don't wanna see the DGs in diapers. Only the original McF Harley has a waist like the DGs - and her diaper was very minimal. Like Witchblade, let's just not...

Except for Hasbro when they steal JSC faces for their figures. But faces only.

Was one of my favorite series at the time even though it came out slow as molasses and the series ended basically on a Raiders of the Lost Ark vibe almost beat for beat. But the art was great. I got all the original female figures and they honestly do look just like the comics. I never played the videogame though. I did always wonder why they never made a Gen13 game though if DangerGirl was able to get one. I know they optioned a movie that never went anywhere. What I wouldn't have given to see it made into an animated film or series to go up on cable alongside Spawn and some of the other indie cartoon shows though.

My friend bought a new Corvette Stingray and I asked him how his "hoopty" was every time I'd see him, just jokingly. He was not amused with that and actually got fairly annoyed...which of course is how I referred to it every time after that.

I’ve wondered for years (decades) why Todd hasn’t been more proactive amongst the comic community in terms of action figures. Outside of Spawn and DC, I’d guesstimate that’s he’s done less than 50 comic figures out of the thousands of figures he’s produced. Image or Image adjacent especially.

I owned the Danger Girls. I owned the Crimson figures. I eagerly anticipated the Battle Chasers figures which never made it to production. There’s so much over the last 30 odd years that would’ve made great figures. And I don’t believe that it’s too late. Give us a Danger Girls update. And Cry for Dawn, and Marv. Youngblood would be cool. Probably too late for Wetworks. How about comic accurate, fully articulated and painted 7” Walking Dead figures? The humans anyway.

I’m really hoping that Hellboy, Savage Dragon and the rest are trial balloons for 2027.

I would hope so too. I was never into Dawn (not the dish soap) but I remember how prevalent she was in the 90s, Evil Ernie, Spider Jerusalem and a whole host of other stuff I wasn't into but saw plenty of in "comics catalogues," yes that's right we used to have to order comics from a catalogue like it was the 1850's and would be delivered on a Sears and Robuck's buckboard wagon before the next season.

Often when people are eulogizing the times that all these fun retro items come from I often bring up the one thing most forget when fondly reminiscing...the term "Allow 6-8 weeks for delivery." Now we feel indignant if it takes more than a week in many cases.

But going back to your figure statements, were there BattleChasers figures on deck with prototypes? I was all over Joe Mad stuff but never saw any besides a few people's customs. I loved Crimson as a series and not just because it's the only one that saw a "full run series" type of release. Whereas J Scott Campbell wrapped his up in 7 issues and then handed it off for others to keep alive. Battle Chasers never got that finality, which may be in keeping with an open-ended anime/manga feel, but the post-videogame issues seem forced and like a totally different direction in many ways.

Some Sin City figures by Todd would be cool. I'd think he'd be first in line calling creators every time their comic becomes a movie, since his seems trapped in development hell (where his character seems to spend most of his time anyway).

I wish I could say I recall seeing prototypes, I don’t. Quick google search finds nothing other than the statues that have been made and various customs. I believe the original announcement was in Toyfare Magazine and may have had some turnarounds.

There was a game but it got cancelled.

I bought the animated movie at Wizard World way back in 2001. Bootleg but very clean. It did release in Australia and Europe on VHS.

You can watch it here.

There was also another similarly themed title from Image called Tellos by Todd Dezago and Mike Wieringo. There were definitely prototype figures from that comic.
