Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies and Streaming Series Discussion

How is the internet going to click bait comic nerds once Sadie Sink's Spider Man character is revealed. She's been "confirmed" to be about a half dozen different characters so far.

I can only assume that the next moment in the film will be Steve noticing some armored guy in green...???

I will assume the only reason Steve returns to the present would be to get his child back...

I literally just said "OH FUCK OFF" to my screen.

This movie seems like it was designed in a lab to make me not interested in it. How many characters who got their ending are we going to haul out of retirement to extract a few more dollars from you? We'll never actually get any good new MCU films. We've gotten tot he stage of C-suite control where the only thing that can be done is recycling what worked before until it's drained of all life.

I have the opposite opinion - I am intrigued because we really have little idea what this Avengers film might be about at this point, who they are going to feature, etc.

Going in, we knew Avengers 1 was about getting the Avengers together vs Loki - the prior films had built to that idea; Avengers 2 we knew was going to introduce more Avengers and Ultron and the seeds had been planted a bit for that; and Avengers 3 and 4 of course was the culmination of the Thanos arc. But for this one and next there is no clear road map to it, which I find interesting as it could go anywhere... In some ways it is sort of undercutting the Phase stuff as hard to say if this is a final chapter or a new start?

I put this as much on the fans as the studio (and I include, on some level, the people making the films as 'fans'). We can't let the big names go. WE (maybe not specifically you and me) are just as obsessed with Cap and Thor and IM and Spidey as the studio is. We have pretty roundly rejected attempts to introduce new versions or new characters.
Obviously, some of the blame falls on the studio for releasing shitty versions of characters, or not striking while it was hot and now actors have moved on or don't have enough life left in them (in franchise terms) to carry.

I understand why they did it - but Sam as Cap was always a mistake. It was a mistake in the comics and they failed to learn from that mistake and, instead, copied it in the films. But keeping Steve was never going to work either. As I've said elsewhere, you don't have 18 years in real life to tell a superhero story. HUMANS AGE. Humans get tired of playing the same character over and over, especially when they're rich enough to just... not do that.

So you write an ending because you kind've have to, but then you realize if you can convince them to come back again, you can keep doing the comic book thing. And I kind of respect that in a way, but movies will never be comics and it just doesn't work. You can't just make these specific versions of these characters last forever no matter how much you want to, and no matter how much you know the fans will react, with their wallets, more positively to it than the other options.

I've argued here and elsewhere that they gave us 7 films with Cap as a lead character and 9 films with IM as a main character and it was time to conclude their stories. But many fans have purposely rejected any chance for the MCU to move on and feature other characters and complained that they need more Cap and IM, even though you have to go back to the early days of film for any character (outside of maybe some horror) to get 7 and 9 films with the same actor to tell their story.

My hope is they have a good story reason to bring back Steve.

I guess Kirk and Ethan Hunt are up there in film appearances as well. Kirk's end was unsatisfying (to me) and they seem to not want to give Hunt a true ending.
