General Toy Nostalgia

I give you one of the greatest lines that I wanted to like way more than I actually liked it.....

TACKY STRETCHOID WARRIORS

Ooooh yeah. I didn't have a Stretch Armstrong, but I sure had these guys.

Told you I could talk about this all day.

King Arthur and the Knights of Justice. About a football team who bear uncanny resemblance to a disappeared King Arthur and Knights of the Round Table, and go back in time to help lead medieval England.

James Bond Jr.-- I had quite a few of these. Fun show, fun figures.

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. Yes, a cartoon and toyline based on the goofy ass B horror movie.

Rat Fink and the Rat Rods. I knew next to nothing about these. But I saw them in Children's Palace next to the Beetlejuice and Bill and Ted's action figures, and thought they looked cool, so I wanted 'em.

My parents used to call my dog rat fink. I had no idea, up until this very second, that he was an existing character. I thought it was an insult.
Capitol Critters, based off of a short lived prime time TV cartoon show. About rats and cockroaches that live in the White House.
I just looked this up. Why, pray tell, would the show be called Capitol Critters if the titular critters did not live in the Capitol?

If they live in the White House, why not call it Capital Critters?

It befuddles.
Goddamn, I didn't realize that I was on this board with so many retirees. All these 70's and early 80's toys. Glad to see some fellow 90's kids.
Right? I was going to post some toys from my childhood, but I was worried I'd receive an avalanche of replies like:

"I was 35 when that came out."
"I picked it up after my second divorce."

Rat Fink is an insult. It's a contemptible person, usually like a traitor or swindler.

So you're right.

But he's also a character from acclaimed cartoonist and hot rod enthusiast Edward "Big Daddy" Roth. Popular painted on show hot rods and then adapted to music gig posters and album art. From the 60s, he is intended to be the Anti Mickey Mouse.

He had a lot of merch in the 80s and 90s, but I never saw Hot Wheels.

About my age when Marvel Legends started.... ;)

I'm enjoying this thread because my toy knowledge has a major gap from between about 1983 (high school, and Micronauts and vintage SW more or less ends) to 1997 or so when Power of the Force started to drop the bulky aesthetic, but didn't really kick back in until Legends, Palisades Muppets and Simpsons World of Springfield lines appeared in the early 2000's and my collecting phase started...

That was a guilty pleasure Sunday morning cartoon for me. I thought the idea was stupid, but great execution. I thought the armor designs were pretty cool.

MIGHTY MAX
Never had a desire for the toys, but the show was f'n awesome

DICK TRACY
These guys where my homies. I only had Tracy, Catchem and the Rodent, but it was the pulp related stuff I had.

I watched a video recently on gender-swapped toys and Polly Pocket/Mighty Max got included in that. I never had any of the proper MM toys, but like Capitol Critters, I did have the McDonalds version

I had the Bat and Spider MM sets. They were neat but it was never a formula that fit my play needs.

As an adult, look into all of them, though. The artistry and creativity is so cool.

I remember watching Capital Critters as a kid with my family and being so confused by the show because it was so adult for a cartoon. I think a character died in like every episode. I had no idea they made figures for that show. Given how adult that show was (at least my memory of it), I'm surprised they made toys for it.

I would be all over new Dick Tracy or King Arthur lines. The one12 Dick Tracy line is so tempting, but I can't justify the cost. Hunting for new Dick Tracy figures at our Supermarket as a kid with my brother, especially for the impossible-to-find Blank, are some happy memories. We were able to build a solid collection of those figures.

Unfortunately for me, I think there is an almost zero chance for new figures from the King Arthur cartoon. Even though I remember watching the show, I don't really remember the figures. But, I remember the knight designs being cool. It's a property that keeps popping into my head whenever people talk about dream lines. I'll have to go down a Google image rabbit hole to see if they are anywhere close to as cool as I remember.

Dick Tracy - I had a few of these and I really liked them. But it always bothered me that Dick didn't come with a raincoat. You should always have a raincoat on your Dick.

Mighty Max was amazing. Loved the cartoon and loved the toys. I had.. so... fucking.. many. The character packs, the small heads, the larger sets, the big playsets.. all of it. Again, I had a weird fascination with/love for mini figures.

James Bond Jr. - I only had ONE action figure - ninja James. Because it was the '90s and he had one of the BEST katana I'd ever seen on an action figure up to that point. I loved that figure. I did watch the cartoon, though. Not sure why I never got more of the toys, but it was probably just the age old answer of 'couldn't buy everything' and it just didn't rank high enough.

King Arthur and the Knights of Justice is a cartoon I still have to this day. I LOVED the cartoon. I loved the toys even more. Like.. way more. Like, I would have drown the cartoon in a gas station toilet to get more of the toys I loved them so much. I think I had almost all of them. I even thought about re-collecting them as an adult, but that's a bit easier said than done if you want them complete and in good condition. This line needs a modern remake -today-.

The Bots Master - I know nothing about this except that I -did- own the three-armed Snake Eyes robot. I don't even know if I asked for it or if someone just bought it for me as a gift. But I had it and it was pretty great.

DICK TRACY: had some of the toys, was WAY into the trading cards for the movie. I remember collecting them around the same time as the GREMLINS 2 cards.

JAMES BOND JR. and ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES are cartoon theme songs that, for unexplained reasons, STILL flit around in my head every once in a while, although I would not say they were like top five shows for me or anything back then.
