G.I. Joe Head Canon & Fanfic Filecards

Code Name: Torpedo (Disavowed)
File Name, Leialoha, Edward W.
Primary Military Specialty: Navy Seal
Secondary Military Specialty: Demolitions
Birthplace: Aiea, Hawaii
Rank: WO-4 / Warrant Officer (Suspended)

Subject, on paper, accepted an honorable discharge at the time of Lewis's disbandment of the GI Joe Unit, but in reality, Leialoha has completely disappeared. He was on leave visiting family at the time in Hawaii and operatives sent to monitor him have been utterly stymied in their attempts to find the man. Not originally considered one of the Joes of utmost concern, a passive monitoring program was put in place, but then the explosions started happening. Numerous vessels carrying Lewis personnel have been sunk off the coast of Oahu and teams of amphibious guerrilla fighters have been seen targeting and destroying military installations across the islands. It is believed that Leialoha is training and leading a cadre of men, both former Joes and others, in an attempt to enable Hawaii to declare independence from the United States. This seems to be a far-fetched scenario, but certain analysts have noted that it may be more financially feasible for Lewis to abandon Hawaii than try to retain it.

"We always joked that Torpedo had no personality, but the fact is, the man's just private. Think about it - he spends the bulk of his life waiting to go back into the depths, away from humanity, away from the noise. He just wants to be left alone. So when Lewis started imposing his will on Torpedo's home state? Man... it's like Cobra pissed off an angry sea god from old myths. Couple of our guys who were there on leave at the time joined up and they are raising a volcanic level of hell out there. Wish we could send more help but it's a logistical nightmare. Maybe they'll elect him president of Hawaii when this is over. Nah. He'll set the island free and then dive back into the ocean and find his peace. Yeah, that's all Eddie wants. Waves and whale songs."

I like Dukes. I loved Torpedos! Great, great take.
I struggled to figure out exactly what to do with Duke since I set up Hawk as the resistance leader. Glad you guys are digging it! Torpedo was the one I knew EXACTLY what he was going to be up to, but had to learn more about the islands themselves so I could paint an accurate scenario in as few words as possible. (Also holy crap, reading Torpedo's file card, that guy is like, almost Snake Eyes deadly with hand to hand combat, he's canonically like underwater John Wick.)

Codename: Destro
File Name: Destro, James MacCullen
Primary Specialty: Weapons Manufacturer
Secondary Specialty: Intelligence
Birthplace: Callander, Scotland

Official documentation: Heir to the Destro line and owner/CEO of MARS (Military Armaments Research System). Acts in an unofficial role similar to Secretary of Defense under President Lewis, though Destro is not a U.S. citizen and holds no official public office. Continues to maintain leadership of both MARS and his own private security branch, the Iron Grenadiers, though at the behest of President Lewis, the Grenadiers are not allowed to operate on American soil. Lewis relies heavily on Destro for both specialty weaponry and covert intelligence, though in the early months of the presidency, a schism appears to be growing between the men; Destro has stated that he would prefer to fade into the background once the Lewis administration has settled, though all reports indicate Lewis would prefer keep the weapons manufacturer close.

Destro's Journal (handwritten, stored in a state of the art secure biometric lockbox set to incinerate the contents should anyone other than Destro himself open it): "One might think committing these words to paper is writing my own death sentence, and perhaps it is, but I am tired of my own cowardice, so perhaps it is only just that I do so. We created a monster, and gave the monster the keys to the kingdom. Cobra Commander was useful to me as a warlord and a terrorist; a world at war is good for business, and my family's business has always been war. But his ambition and cruelty were held in check by his failures until now. The harm he could do ruling over an island and leading an army of mercenaries was limited in ways it is not as president. I never believed the world was stupid enough to fully buy into his con, his mythos, his wordplay; but I either underestimated the man, or overestimated humanity. Perhaps both.

"I have made all possible arrangements to abandon the United States and Cobra; as 'Lewis' prepares to turn the country's military into the world's most effective terrorist organization, I presume other nations will be willing to pay top dollar for MARS armaments. Now that he has access to the United States military, Lewis--curse this foolishness, he is Cobra Commander and I will not dignify him using this farcical stage name any longer--Cobra Commander has less and less need of my products. But it isn't about the money any longer, is it. I am a profiteer, yes, but I still have some semblance of honor. Arrangements have been made. Pipelines established. I consider this a donation to a just cause. Ironic that the men who were once called GI Joe, who were often my enemy, will be receiving untraceable MARS weaponry to use against the nation they once served.

"Baroness thinks we can undermine Cobra Commander from the inside. Perhaps she is right. But I find myself less and less able to hide my disdain for the man and as much as I dislike him, he is no fool. He knows I am displeased. Best to walk away while I still can."

(Sorry for the long one with Destro, but he's my favorite, and I've had his story arc in mind from the get-go. I always see him as the guy who is capable of realizing he's sided with monsters and being capable of shame and redemption, unlike most of the other cuckoo bananas guys Cobra runs with.)

Yeah, I never realized Destro could be... basically a hero, heh. It's an amazing development.
I think it goes back to my current obsession with old men filled with regret for a lifetime of wrongs. Mostly over in the Star Wars crop of shows these days but it crosses over into here. I've always latched onto that subtext with Destro that there IS an ethical line he won't cross and it makes him more complex than the mustache twirling guys. (Though Cobra has the best mustache twirling bad guys. Bludd is irredeemable but I still love the bastard.)

This caught me up on my priority list - I'm open to suggestions for who next!

It's funny, I actually thought I did Cover Girl but she just did the commentary on Crank Case. I'll bump her up the list since she already kinda has a framework in this head canon setting. Oh man, Bludd will be a hoot to write. He's unhinged. (I always see one of my favorite characters from Joe Abercrombie's books in him, Nincomo Cosca. Just a sleazy mercenary who somehow always comes out the other side.)

Honestly, I did too. I have a list I'm keeping of who you've done and specific characters you haven't done, so I almost said someone else then noticed her on there. But you're right, she did the one for Crankcase.

yeah that is wonderful. I feel like Bludd has a ton of potential beyond what the comics and even the cartoon showed.

I don't post much, but do read every one and I'm always glad to see this thread updated. Well done @docsilence. Always fun trying to guess who some of the un-named players (Airborne's security team or Torpedo's Seal Team for example) are.

I've been thinking - is there an ex-Joe who sides with Lewis? Let's face reality - there are absolutely current military and veterans who are 100% on board with MAGA and there would be the same with CoCo. I've always viewed GI Joe as the best of the best, most honorable, would never betray their country and their vows, etc, so I'm having a difficult time coming up with someone who just lost it all and shit all over their life.

Slaughter maybe? And that's only because it's hard to separate the character from the real life Magat who portrays him. Joe Slaughter is likely all in on the resistance, but there is precedence with the character switching sides (in other media, granted).
