G.I. Joe Classified Series

The Thomas Jane movie was like.. fine.. in an unintentionally kind of silly way (like having his ENTIRE EXTENDED FAMILY gunned down instead of his wife and kids was basically just parody of the Punisher story). But Thomas Jane didn't act like Punisher at all in that film. If you filed off the name and blacked out the one time he was wearing the skull - you'd literally never know it was even -supposed- to be a Punisher film. It was just like a silly early 2000s revenge movie.

They just spent way too much time on not-Frank planning out this elaborate ruse to get everyone stupid and upset with each other and suchlike, when actual-Frank would have just blown up their house and been done with it.
He was arguably my favorite portrayal of the Punisher character. Bernthal to me doesn't seem like the right fit, it's almost like he's trying to out-Punisher the Punisher character itself in term of brutality and psycho characteristics. His look just seems a little more Jersey Shore with the hair than I'd like. Jane just seemed like the Punisher for the era that brought us boy bands. Lundgren was a decent attempt in the sense that crimefighters in NYC in the 80s ended up living in the sewers; a little TOO crazy for my tastes. Aesthetically Stevenson hit the nail on the head when it came to embodying the Bradstreet Punisher covers I saw at the comic shop. My main complaint with that film was that most of the kills came so fast that it felt like the villains aside from Jigsaw and Looney Bin Jim were dead almost as soon as they appeared. But even the scenery appeared like a darker side of NYC that he, Daredevil and the TMNT would fit right into while Spiderman and the others stayed in Manhattan.

I generally don't like the Punisher as a character, but I sure love the Jane movie and Stevenson movie.

The stevenson movie for how funny it is, like when he blows that parkour guy up mid-leap? chefs kiss.

Berenthal is fine, I guess. But I kinda wish he was Frank Grillo

Ray was good in everything. He was probably the most genuinely Punisher of all the Punishers, and his Firefly is the only time I ever gave a shit about Firefly. And my god was he good in Rome (I also don't like Roman history very much but I was -riveted- by that show and his performance). Little appreciated as the show was, he also stole the show in a few episodes of Medici AND he played Blackbeard in that pirate show (Black Sails?). I'd take action figures of all those guys.

Technically, we did get ONE Punisher played by Ray Stevenson.

I love Bernthal's portrayal of Punisher, acting-wise. I have issues with some of the directions they've chosen to take with the character. Having Punisher 'retire' from being Punisher? Hate it. Having Punisher do most of his Punishing off-screen between seasons? REALLY fucking hate it. The haircut? Very much not a fan.

Everything else I'm very on board with and he basically ties with Ray as my favorite. I think Ray is a better Frank, but in a worse production, is probably the issue. They went a little too goofy with Jigsaw & Crew. The MCU Punisher got a lot of really great moments that I would have killed to see from Ray.

I actually do enjoy the Thomas Jane film (I even own the extended cut), but I don't enjoy it AS a Punisher film. I've been reading basically everything Punisher since the mid-80s, including his significant cameos in stuff like War of the Realms, as well as every solo series he's ever had. Thomas Jane's movie did not feel like anything I've ever read in a Punisher comic, and Thomas Jane never felt like Frank Castle in any way.

Funny thing is no matter how you slice it or what you think of the scripts and productions, Punisher has been played by a murderer's row of fun actors. Every one of those guys makes whatever they're in instantly better and are usually the most interesting man on screen.

Bernthal's Punisher was the first time I felt emotionally invested in the character and of all four he's the one who triggers my fight or flight instinct the most, but none of them phoned it in.

(Ray, man. His line delivery from Ahsoka broke my heart. "I miss the idea of it." Maybe it's cos I'm getting older but my favorite genre of character these days is "aging man weighing the consequences of his past and realizing even if he tries to change it he won't live to see it through." AIso had no idea he played Firefly, since I never got around to seeing that movie but would have if I knew he was in it.)

I'm one of those who felt each season of Dexter wasn't as good as the previous season, but Ray showed up in one of the later seasons and elevated the shit out of the scenes he was in, without even seeming to try.

It is occasionally embarrassing how happy I am with the simpler figures from this line. They do such incredible work on the more complex figures, but I'm over here NOT having Blowtorch or Tripwire on display but four guys wearing the same jumpsuit all lined up and I'm just happy as a clam.

Steeler looks excellent

Had to double-check, for a while there I thought I accidentally stumbled into the ML General thread. I'm a Jon Bernthal fan boy so of course I like his Punisher, although seeing him all old and skinny with gen alpha broccoli/jersey shore hair made me skip whatever new seasons of the Daredevl/Punisher stuff is out now.
