G.I. Joe Classified One-A-Day Beamish-Style Figure Poll - #144 - Salvo (RAH)

I had to Google this guy, and his actual last name is Head. Gary Head. I'd rather go by Goggles.

Gary "Goggles" Head. He was pretty well known in the old days. Always had scoops on new figures, and sometimes prototypes. I had limited interaction with him, but what I did was always good. It's almost 11 years since he died.

I definitely meant no disrespect to Gary. I just read Tim Finn's blog post about Gary and their interaction revolving around the book Finn was writing. It's unusual to me, maybe because I haven't experienced it in real life, that there are fans with notoriety within the fandom. I guess there are the video influencers, to which I give no credence. But seeing that there are fans who are well respected for their expertise on the subject seems.. I don't know. I just don't expect it. For the most part, we here are anonymous, and maybe some of us have met each other in person, But I'm not aware of anyone here with that much notoriety, or reputation within the community. It's nice to see that there are people within the (sometimes toxic from what I've heard) Joe collector community especially, that are respected for being a great fan. For the record, I have plenty of respect for the people around here just for being decent and making AT a decent place to post.

I assume a lot of people were aware of him and interacted with him a lot, and of he was a decent and good person in the Joe collecting community, that was apparently real noteworthy. But I mean, if someone on this forum died and we had a few thousand more members, I imagine it might be comparable.

I get that, and I didn't know about him until the figure happened either. And I think Dre is probably where I learned about the inspiration for the figure's identity since I tend to keep away from most fandoms.

Not to get too off topic, but does Marvel/Marvel Legends have any fans with that kind of reputation? Someone with deep knowledge, who makes their way around the convention circuit, has a presence on the forums? I feel like I've heard of Star Wars fans who are famous just for being Star Wars fans. I'm sure there are people for Transformers. But I can't think of any for Marvel.

Anti-aircraft gunner is a pretty cool niche and the uniform is distinctive, why not? Also, is this the same guy the Red Shadows Gyre Wolf is based on? I did a bit of reading about him after they announced those figures, seemed like a good dude but if he's inspiring this much fondness he must have been a saint.

Sightline I don't really care about, but if the Classified figure looks as cool as the 30th, I'd probably end up with it.

Salvo was a childhood favorite and I will buy him in an instant.
