DC Studios Movies and Streaming Series Discussion

It's funny, I liked the trailer well enough and I'm more patient with the Gunn-ification of DC because I thought he held back his more Gunn-ish impulses in Superman 2025 (I was so ready for that to be his usual slapdick, I want to be sincere but I'm incapable of admitting I want to be sincere so here's some dick jokes to make sure you know I'm cool! humor). Milly looks like she's having the time of her life, and I'm interested in seeing what "hey, Clark was a baby, he doesn't remember everyone and everything he ever knew dying, but I do" angle looks like.

I hate toilet humor--I'm kind of not someone who watches comedy at all in general, really?--but Krypto peeing on the newspaper didn't throw me. I guess living with animals, yeah, dogs piss on things all the time, it doesn't even clock as toilet humor so much as pet humor. Meanwhile I turned Aquaman off when he sniffed his armpit underwater and never turned it back on again.

But I also said to my biggest DC-loving friend "my favorite takeaway from that trailer is I'm gonna have to mute almost everything about it because regardless of if the film is good or bad the worst men on the internet are going to use it to get engagement clicks" and yeah, within an hour I was already muting pretty much everything about it.

But before I did I saw some dude claiming to be a DC superfan refer to Lobo as a lame, unknown, nobody character and I was like NOW WAIT A GODDAMNED MINUTE, HA DUMB BASTICH

(The greatest fuckup of the Snyderverse was having a man born to play Lobo play Aquaman, like that was the casting equivalent of being given a pair of good winter boots and wearing them as gloves)

Also yes, the Streaky erasure is a crime.,

Dayum, I didn't even make it that far. I barely remember anything about what I did watch though, it was REALLY not engaging.
Like, I hated the first Suicide Squad but I was able to finish it. Aquaman offended me as a creator to my core. I hope Momoa crushes it as Lobo as a way to correct the timeline.

Full honesty, I don't really know much about Lobo, and I'm not that big a fan of Momoa. He's charming enough at times- I wouldn't say he's unlikable, per se- he just always does the same thing. I've always thought he was pretty badly miscast as Aquaman- just because the dude is Hawaiian doesn't mean he's a good fit for an aquatic superhero. Nothing to do with looks or ethnicity or anything- I'm totally cool with a non-white Aquaman, I've just never associated Aquaman with the tough, gruff, bro-y type that Momoa is known for. Lobo definitely feels like a character that's more up his alley than Aquaman, so I'm interested to see how it plays out. I'm expecting it'll be the typical Momoa performance, but at least with a character that's made for it.

My preferred Aquaman is grizzled, hook-hand Arthur, but more in the “seasoned warrior-king” vein of JLU than “biker bro”.

Momoa is much better for Lobo. It’s a “right actor for the right part” situation for sure.

Same on Aquaman - I love the "I've seen some shit" iteration of him most. And I like Momoa in the right part but even back then like, the consensus was "why u cast Lobo as Arthur Curry?"

And? Did you just go with it?

Finally someone else said it. I'm not even a fan of the Super characters, and even I know she's got Streaky. I know Gunn is a dog person, but come on- stop giving cats a bad rap. We better see ol' Streaky eventually, and I'll be mad if we get through all the Lanterns stuff- however much of it we get- and there's no Dex-Starr appearance. Gimme my super cats, damnit!
if rainbow lanterns never exsted we'd all be better off cause it would mean geoff johns was never given power to make bad idea

yeah, thats ridiculous. Lobo's not unknown or a nobody!

the other part's kinda true though ;)

Real talk though: Aquaman is in my top five of superhero movies, that movie fucking rules, Julie Andrews plays a krakken

And like, sure Mamoa may look great for Lobo, but Mamoa is charming and likable, and Lobo is not. Lobo's whole deal is he's an insufferable asshole no one likes. like meathead deadpool.

It's much easier to make Arthur more fun with Mamoa than try to make Lobo more likable

I can see Mamoa playing a version of Lobo that hues close to his character in Superman TAS. At least, that seems like a version that would suit him best.

I have never cared about Supergirl, but this trailer seemed fine. Her character has a clear purpose and reason to exist beyond just girl Superman and I’ll probably see it. I know my daughter got excited when she popped in at the end of Superman. And while I love cats (I write this as my wife plays fetch with our 17 year old kitty) I am more than okay with Krypto being the lone super animal.
