BBTS shipping going up to $6....

When I saw the e-mail today their shipping was going up, it honestly didn't even phase me. I have expected this for some time, and I'm surprised they kept it at $4 as long as they did. While you hate to see things always going up, $6 bucks here in the US is still crazy reasonable at this point.

BBTS has always been such a great company, and if $2 bucks more makes it better for them as good as their service is and as trustable and reliable as they are. Fine by me.

I don't have the willpower to let my PoL go anywhere near the 90 day mark. I rarely hit one month and that's usually when my POL consists of figures I already have in hand. Plus, a high value package in transit sometimes stresses me out.

I nearly always let mine hit the 90 days, unless it's getting close and there is no prospect whatsoever of anything else being added to it. I could probably do it now, since it has to ship in the next 35 days and I pretty much only have Hiya Godzilla stuff on order right now, which they usually update with "on the boat" emails. Since I haven't gotten one of those yet, there's almost certainly nothing dropping into my Pile in the next month, but I'll hold off anyways. Maybe I'll get the itch for something in-stock to add before then. :)

It's two dollars.

That is one of my weird little joys, seeing how well they 3D tetris.
I suspect they have a system that calculates the volume and dimensions needed for each PoL, and can cut down to a specific box length accordingly to match.

Im with you guys in that this doesn't affect my shopping at BBTS one little bit. I'm actually grateful that they've given us such a great service for such a long time. I've been shopping there for over 20 years and have not had one single problem with an order. The two times I've had issues with items, they've taken excellent care of me. The latest being a mezco Samurai Jack that's wrist peg broke right out of the box. They responded within a day and credited my account and let me keep the figure - amazing! Yes, I wave the BBTS flag all day.

Couple their customer service level and their excellent pile-o-loot feature with the low shipping costs - makes me not even bat an eye at a reasonable increase like this.

Sometimes I time deliveries for the weekend, "if BBTS can have this ready for Wednesday night's FedEx pick up, then they can deliver by Saturday."

It's funny, I used to avoid BBTS because they were a little more expensive than Dorkside etc., but these days their total service package is just the best of the bunch.

Oh I 100% time my POL hoping it'll arrive on a day I can enjoy the shipment. Or I'll like, hit ship while I'm traveling for work and I can predict it'll arrive a day or two after I get home so I have something to look forward to.

Dorkside. Wow. Forgot about them.

Didn't they have some controversies towards the end, as well?

There was one I used to use back in 2009, 2010...God, what was their name? Cornerstore Comics? Does that sound right? Based out of Orange County.

All I truly remember is that I used them religiously, and one day, I got hit with a BUNCH of random charges that I didn't recognize. Here come to find out, they had gotten hacked, didn't inform their customers, and a bunch of credit cards were being used for fraudulent charges.

I had made a post about it on the RTM Toy Buzz, and the owner figured out who I was and messaged me demanding that I take it down, saying he would sue me for libel and defamation.

I said "How is it defamation or libel if it's true? You got hacked. You knew and didn't inform your customers. I now have to go through the trouble of closing this debit card, getting a new bank account, etc. Sue away, dude".

"We are just a small business, man! This is going to ruin us! You are actively ruining our reputation".

"No. You did that when you didn't inform your customers about this".

Needless to say, my account got closed and I was blocked from their page.

I think they're out of business now...my bad.

Yes…they were the goto for a lot of collectors at the height of DCUC’s popularity. I’m pretty sure I got my case of DCUC 8 (and by extension, my complete Giganta C&C) and my DCUC naked Cheetah (which I sold for something ridiculous like $200 to $300) from them. There weren’t many reliable sources for preordering back then.

I also remember the issues with the fraudulent card charges, although I didn’t have any myself. I think I had stopped using them when DCUC became more readily available at retail and also switched banks by then.

Dorkside was a good business that just either couldn’t or wouldn’t do the right thing when business went bad. I think opening up that retail location really hurt them.

Yeah, Dorkside was great until they weren't. I definitely had the feeling that they'd overextended themselves at the time, and once things started to slip, it went bad quick.

Also "why'd you get six boxes today?" Look, darling, I swear it was one order, I don't know why Amazon/Pulse/Gamestop/Bestbuy/Target/Walmart decided to ship five figures in five tiny boxes. Or in the case of Target and Amazon, often one tiny figure in one giant box. Controlled shipping helps me with my SHAME.

This honestly is a good point. I'm not a MOC collector, I don't care if packaging gets dinged up in transit, but it's always kind of entertaining to see how they jenga'd the stuff in there.

"We don't collector-shame in this house!" I've learned if I whisk it off the porch without anyone noticing, then technically only the bank and I know I ever got it. For the delivery company I'm already off the radar. Which reads somewhat like the "Girl Math" I've heard where if you return something you've made money.

Here's the thing with that:

I always felt the same way. My wife and I have separate accounts and a joint account. All of my toy purchases come from my account, obviously.

But I always figured that if I just ordered from my account, got to it when it was delivered before she could, I was golden.

Until the day that she said to me something along the lines of "I know you think I don't see all the shit you get. You think I don't see all the packaging and cardboard going to the recycling bin?". I remained "ignorant", of course.

"Whaaat? What are you talking about??"

"Uh-huh. Amazing how you're 'Always selling stuff', but your shelves are never empty".

So either she was calling me bluff, or...like J. Cole says--she Knows, dun dun dun, she knows...

You can see your entire order history on BBTS. I am tempted/terrified to see what the total is. But this was apparently my first order:

Order Date: 12/23/2005

Items:
JLU: Lex Luthor, Copperhead, & Mirror Master 3 Pack
JLU: Tomar-Re, Green Lantern, & Kilowog 3 Pack
JLU: Batman, Superman, & Wonder Woman (Justice Lords) 3 Pack
Palz Series 1 - Vampire Buffy
Toy Biz LOTR: Electronic Eye of Sauron
Toy Biz LOTR: Super Poseable Frodo
Toy Biz LOTR: Aragorn
Toy Biz LOTR: Gandalf Stormcrow

Subtotal: $59.92
Shipping: $6.69
Tax: $0.00

Pretty sure the JLU 3-packs and the Toy Biz LOTR were 7.99 each, and the Palz was 3.99...

At that time I was still mostly buying stuff in stores when I had within 5 minutes of me a TRU, KayBee, Target and Walmart....
