U.S. Politics

Ugh. I hate the meme-ification of our politics. Just another pathetic (and unfortunately, probably effective) way to sway young men over to their side. It's been happening more and more- young men being radicalized to fight the "far left" and "wokeness"; unfortunately working way more than it should. Also shows how out of touch they all are- not that Halo is at all unpopular these days, but it definitely does feel like they're a tad too late for that to be the hottest property around to make reference to. I get there's the whole "Master Chief/Commander in Chief" reference, but still. Give it a week or two and I wouldn't be surprised to see Trump's head on a frickin' Chicken Jockey from Minecraft to try and sway the next generation of voters.

Unfortunately, all you gotta do to sway a large swath of men over to your cause is to promise them a boost in their masculinity while claiming that X thing or X group of people is going to demasculate them.

Re: cats:
Nothing makes me feel safer here and more like I am among “my people” than seeing so much love for cats. As many of you know, my precious soulmate and best friend Oliver “Ols” Queen nearly succumbed to a mystery infection earlier this year, and yet right now I am looking at his sweet face as he snoozes happily and healthily in his little bed. I know he won’t be with me forever, but he is here now and my heart is peaceful.

As to ridiculous GameStop/Halo/MAGA nonsense:
It’s what I’ve come to expect from this juvenile, insecure movement. Reeks of “hello, fellow kids!” And yet it will work on some folks, which is existentially crushing.

Yeah, it's more Gamestop's desperation that caught me off-guard than Trump photoshopped next to a pop culture icon. I think the hero worship is one of those things that will never stop degrading my opinion of the people who side with him. A useful pawn or a hate-monger they agree with, that makes sense to me, but he's a pussbag of stupid and they think he's peak masculinity. At least the dumbasses who look up to RFK see a roided out Kennedy, there's something they might emulate in his stupid. Trump is just a nepo baby built like a candy corn.

They joined in later with their own tweets.

Last time I was in GameStop it smelled like stale movie theater popcorn.

Yep. It's part of the anti-intellectual movement. It's an incredibly effective tool for the conservative cause.
Like Gamestop is MAGA?
Apparently, yes. They commented on the White House's AI slop Instagram post, too.

According to people I know who follow this stuff, their social media has been reactionary for years. Their CEO is an avowed Trumper chud.

Good. I'm glad the masks are off. I don't go to Gamestop much anymore because I'm a PC gamer now, but I did stop in earlier this year to trade in a game rather than dealing with the stress of eBay. I'll never step foot in there again.
We’re gonna see a lot of that
“Rainbow capitalism”, but for Nazism.
Sure is.

If Amazon lays off 30,000 people BEFORE the holidays, that's not "AI efficiencies," that's a fucking recession alarm bell, yeah? I cannot wrap my brain around why these fucking oligarchs are so determined to rule over a barren wasteland of a world. They're crashing the economy out of spite. Or stupidity.

From what I've seen we'd already be in a recession if it weren't for something like 1/3 of our economy being a daily increasing bet on AI which has no path to getting a ROI. We'll be fortunate if all we have is a recession when that bubble pops.

I feel bad because I have an old friend that is caught up on the layoffs after decades of loyal service as a warehouse supervisor.

But this year I just faded and didn't keep up contact because he read some Jordan Peterson and started saying he and Rogan have good ideas, while also falling into the "it's not that bad" club about 2025 after not voting and just playing the All Sides Are Bad card on any issue

Theres the schadenfreude part that says to enjoy what you're reaping .
