Four Horsemen Studios Mythic Legions

If you want the dude I only wanted the lady. Could split.
Okay... that's actually tempting, despite how ludicrously expensive that set is.

Encouraging your fans to take on debt just so that you can say your Kickstarter passed a million dollars sure is something.
...What? Tell me you're doing a big ol' hyperbole right now.

If you have not yet backed this campaign and you intend to, it would be wonderful for you to do so now. Remember that Kickstarter “pledges” are not charged until the end of a campaign, so no payment is due now and you can edit your order at any time before the campaign ends. Anything you pledge for today, from gameplay items to new action figures to Combo Packs, you will NOT be charged for until 4/4/26. You can even spread the payments out across 3 months for more flexibility!

Everything about that email today felt desperate. And it doesn't have to be. They're at almost 10X their funding goal. That used to be a raging success for a Kickstarter. The marketing here feels like flop sweat when it's... doing okay? I mean, there's several other TTRPG KS projects right now that are doing as well without all the toy elements so maybe it's a competition thing? But almost none of their unlocks or stretch goals are game related. I just looked through what they have left to unlock and there's nothing there that motivates me to spend more than I intended to.

Wow. That definitely gives me the ick. I suppose it's a fine line between reminding people that you don't pay up front when you pledge (I've seen this get questioned in every single Kickstarter I've ever fucking seen) and sounding like you're begging people to throw in money they don't even have. Either way, to quote Ren & Stimpy; No Sir, I don't like it.

The combination of desperation and greed on display here is truly astonishing.

And I feel like we shouldn't go a full page of conversation without pointing out, again, that this -TTRPG Kickstarter- is basically ENTIRELY about toys and every unlock and incentive is a toy. This is a goddamn toy Kickstarter and the 4H should be ashamed of themselves and mocked into oblivion.

That is pretty desperate. And they already funded anyway, so what's the desperation if not performative numbers to flaunt.

Compare it to the Cyberpunk card game I did a while back and the whole thing was effortlessly cool and comfortable with itself.

if not performative numbers to flaunt.
I'm sure that's part of it. I'm sure greed is also part of it.
I also wouldn't be surprised if they've actually started running the numbers on what it costs to produce a hardcover 300+ page book and they're like 'oh shit....' Because, let's be real clear here, the amount they're currently getting to produce that book AND the equivalent of a wave+ of action figures is what a lot of TTRPGs want just to produce the book.

They're clowns.

Given how many TTRPG kickstarters I've seen shoot themselves in the dick by underestimating the cost of producing the books, yeah, I would 100% suspect they budgeted for the action figure part since they're used to that but then looked at the books and are watching that profit margin drop. But then again looking at the number of copies of the book itself is so low they could probably just do a print run on KDP instead of dealing with Chinese manufacturing for it.

That email was gross. Nothing else to add.

They expect gamers to show up and just assumed they indiscriminately buy everything they see on Kickstarter and boost them to over a million, but didn’t offer them a game.

They expect their fans to show up and boost them to over a million, but didn’t offer enough toys.

Now they’re making it OUR problem they haven’t broken $1m.

They’ll leave a comment in the Kickstarter when someone says “offer more stuff you’re losing momentum!” Saying “uh, we’re 900% funded with two weeks left, we’re doing Juuusssst fine, k, thnx!” But then turn around and say “we’re just widdle guys! Money pwease so we can have one millions!”

I love the Horsemen’s idea of PR is “we put up an Instagram post or send out an email to our fans and they’ll spread it around”, the idea they should have some reaching out directly to gaming news outlets is probably insane to them “no, they’ll either see the Instagram post or someone will send it to them, like how Dork Lair and Toy Bro signal post us on every platform that isn’t Instagram so we have no other social media presence!”

Kicktraq has their projection not even breaking $900k, and I’m inclined to believe that. A million slipped out of their grasp long ago. I definitely sense some fuckery is coming in the last week to try squeak past $1m, but there’s no way it organically hits that number on the path it is now.

Again, for emphasis: Their wildly successful Kickstarter for a TTRPG has sold so little of the actual TTRPG that they probably don't even need a professional large-scale printing service. Carpetbagger scabs.

Some of the stuff going on would be distasteful even in a regular action figure campaign. The fact that they have done absolutely nothing to make this appeal to the people this entire thing is ostensibly for (gamers) is incredibly telling. Them not getting called out on it publicly, repeatedly, every day, is infuriating.

I might regret this but I just cancelled my Skapular pre order. Just in for the dwarf two pack this wave.

There’s something with 4H designs that has mildly annoyed me and I think I figured it out. Every character has extremely narrow shoulders (or not enough chest width) and a similar silhouette no matter the class or style of character. I like the elements of the design but hardly ever like the whole package.

Just my personal thoughts, I’m not trying to rain on anyone’s parade

Good to hear, I’m excited to get them in hand they look fantastic!

I’m pretty much all-in for dwarves and goblins from every company. Can’t wait for the fury toys and savage crucible dwarves to drop.

I've always thought the shoulders were too narrow to compensate for the oversized pauldrons. I can see what you're getting at there - there's a sort of slope to their shoulders without the armor.

It really does feel like they've abandoned the RPG part entirely. I mean whatever, sell the action figures and move on, but I'd love to hear what actual game designers are saying about this. Though I suspect they haven't even noticed it at all.

Yeah that slight slope to them. It’s a small thing and most of the time you don’t see it but it’s always looked a little off to me.
Dwarves out here shoulder mogging these poor skeletons.

4H emails can be fun if you just read them in the voice of Gil from The Simpsons!
Glad I wasn’t drinking when I read this 😂
