MONDO 1/6 TMNT

Mondo Leo

TMNT.Leo.1.6_PP002.jpg

For the price I could have done without the ninja head and babushka shawl for favor of a happier looking head or traditional gritted teeth. Seems a waste to include a "meditating/sleeping" head when you can just swap the eyes on these; just include eyelid colored eyes rather than give me 2 very similar head sculpts. Not particularly fond of Leo's "screaming at the tv" head either. Seems more like a Raph sculpt overall. The Roadkill Rodney is nice but the bland head sculpts on these make me like it less than Donnie. Basically I'm stuck with one actual head sculpt I'll use that I can swap the eyes on.
I would be all over these at 1:12 scale. I really dig the look of them. But these are too similar to the amazing Mety/Lingjihun, and 150 bucks more expensive. Plus, with the limited real estate, I just continue having to admire from afar.

Like most who are doing the mental gymnastics to justify these I've already committed to just the 4 boys. This is one of those rare cases where Mety and Mondo will both be picking my pockets and I'm justifying it with a faint "...well McFarlane will be over soon, and I'm done with Mondo Ghostbusters so..."

I think Donnie came out to about $320 all told, so at least after Leo's paid off I'll be halfway done as well.

I don't like the screaming head. The shape is a bit strange to me. It reads like an Image portrait. Aside from that though I think he looks awesome. Like Rick, if it were 1:12 I'd probably be into it, but at 1:6 the price in both shelf space and actual dollars is too rich for me.

I had to go back and look, I was wondering why Donnie was cheaper than Leo, I figured maybe it was just the tariff stuff and I'd forgotten the previous price or something.

According to a picture from Mondo's newsletter the exclusives with the timed version of Leo are the Roadkill Rodney, the masked head (and additional mask accessory that goes over it) and the electronic sword that Donnie made for him.

So if that's stuff you can live without I guess the standard Leo will be $235 and go up alongside Shredder in a few months.

Personally I don't see myself displaying him with the mask head but I am planning on displaying the 4 turtles all kitted out in their new gear so need the sword.

None of those extras are anything I want or need, however for $15 I'll take a Roadkill Rodney just for building out a display. The ninja stuff doesn't do much for me. The electronic/laser sword looking thing is alright, honestly I'd probably just leave it on Donnie's workbench if I had one for him. I thought it was kinda cool that he used a motorcycle brake handle for the switch for it though.

I somewhat wish all the turtles ended up being the same skintone as being able to swap all their faces and expressions would really open up a lot of possibilities for looks for many. I feel like Leo needs a gritted teeth look, and that yelling head would look great with Raph's top bandana-ed portion of the head able to swap onto for a raged-out looking shot.

I'd probably suggest most just get the timed edition. If you're not opposed to taking the time to sell the accessories, I'd imagine you'll make much more than $15 back on each of them, which would defray some of the high overall cost of the figure.

If I were going in on these, I'd absolutely get the timed editions for the mousers and rodneys alone. But really, I seem to be one of the few old-timers that actually LIKES when the brothers are differentiated, so I wouldn't want to skip the unique accessories/masks/armor/whatever either.

Old timer here :ROFLMAO:
I like it when done subtly and fits the character. Like I don't think Donnie needs glasses but I love the tech gauntlet with the SNES controller. I love Leo's makeshift ninja stuff. Very excited to see what they've come up with for Raph and Mikey.

I saw Attack Peter on YHS' stream last night, and he was pretty excited about what they were doing with Mikey. Said no one would guess, but that he loved what whoever came up with the final idea for him came up with.

A HAWAIIAN SHIRT!

I saw some social media stuff the Kucharek Bros. who've been working on these also, and Raph basically looked liked a cross between a swat officer / kickboxer; so more or less tactical Raph. They've been working on some statues too so it's possible it could be for that line also, but this looked like a larger figure more than a statue. As for Mikey I've seen absolutely nothing. He usually gets the "teenage" identifiers heaped on him, so I'd imagine a walkman/discman, spray cans, headphones, possibly a skateboard or some sort of MP3 player, maybe a pizza slicer and pie since we've seen no actual pizza-related accessories from Mondo yet. I'd imagine the kusarigama (sp?) is likely in play also, plus the grappling hook they gave him after taking away his chuks in the cartoon. Maybe a Turtle Wax container?

I still think the Mondo / Gecko branding on Donatello's fanny pack was the best "on the nose" homage I've seen yet.
