General Marvel Legends

I love that figure, I was just futzing with him today. Simple design, executed pretty much perfectly.

I had some very young (five and seven) year old family over yesterday and let them play with my ML figures, meaning that the shelves were torn apart and my whole day has been reposing and reshelving the entire Marvel Universe. Worth it, naturally. Now they know who Kitty Pryde and Jack O' Lantern are! This has also enabled me to re-examine a bunch of figures that have just sat on a shelf for a couple years, like Zemo.

Oh yeah, not every MCU is gonna get that retroactive treatment. Had we not gotten, say, all the Eternals in one go, we'd still be missing probably at least 3 or 4 of them- Kro too. And considering all the other semi-recent omissions too- High Evolutionary, Razor Fist, Werewolf by Night, etc.- even the more well-received projects can still go without full representation. And it's hard to know if they're doing more Deadpool figures because of the reception to the movie, or because a lot of the included characters- Deadpool, Wolverine, Blade- are pretty good sellers just on their own. Same with Spidey- the only thing that gives me even a little hope that we may see more than the aforementioned 3 are the fact that Spidey things always sell (though we still never got Shocker from Homecoming).

Definitely gonna be interesting to see how things are going forward for MCU releases. I can't imagine every project is gonna have a ton of secrecy around it, and if Marvel/Disney does want to start getting on good graces with a lot of fans again, more transparency and more merch being available at release would certainly help.
Eternals did more irreparable damage to MCU Legends than anything else ever has or will. The death knell of obscure movie characters in figure form.

I've played a game since 2021, and haven't lost yet: every time I go out toy hunting, I see if I can spot a full set of Eternals rotting on the pegs at one of the stores I stop into.

Never, ever fails.

I've seen a few people mention still wanting Shocker - but he was barely in that movie! And wasn't his costume a hoodie?

I'm not knocking the desire - I have my own list of hopeless wants - but I don't get why this particular look endures. Except I do really enjoy Logan Marshall-Green and wouldn't say no to a figure (well, a second figure).
Cause he was a character in the movie and it feels more complete if he is there than if he isn't.

Only other thing that's been more or less confirmed is another Deadpool wave, or at least a few more figures. Hasn't been outright confirmed, but was heavily hinted at during the reveal. I'm sure we can at least count on a handful more- Elektra being the most notable omission.

Agreed on the BND figures. It's really gonna depend on how different the figures are from the last ones. I know the BND suit isn't quite the same as the Final Swing suit, but I've yet to really see a side-by-side of all the differences. Having just gotten the Born Again Punisher not that long ago, it's gonna depend on how much his costume has really changed. I may be tempted by Hulk, depending; the only Hulk I have in my collection is the old AoU Hulk from the 2 pack; never got anything after that. I'd love to think that Scorpion is a certainty, even if he comes long after the movie, but given how much Electro seemed to pegwarm in places, it makes me wonder if they're a bit more wary to take chances now, especially if Scorpion is a smaller part than Electro was. Then again, I can't imagine Michael Mando's likeness rights being as tricky as they were for Foxx.
But I have also seen that 70s Luke Cage figure at every Ollie's for years along with Elvis MODOK. So it isn't like this doesn't happen with comic figures.

Elvis MODOK has to be my all-time pick for "what the fuck were they thinking" Marvel Legends figure.

I know, I know mileage for the tooling ... but why not do MODAM or Lady MODOK? Not an exact match for the tooling, but it isn't like Detroit Steel and Iron Monger were 1:1.

While I don't at all disagree, I also don't necessarily think they're all that bad figure-wise, at least for the time (nor do I think all the hate for the movie is entirely warranted). That many new characters and new parts, decent enough likenesses. Not super common, even for the time, but yeah- they took a risk and it very much did not pay off, so we'll never see anything like it again. A shame all around.

It reminds me of Mego going all-in on "The Black Hole" or "Star Trek: The Motion Picture."

Great product for the wrong project, and it meant everyone avoided the license for say ... "Flash Gordon" like the plague.

Figures were quite good I felt and still do.

The film was not appreciated, to put it politely. Now if a Captain America film is not appreciated he is still Cap and his figures will sell. And if film Cap looks like comics Cap he is recognizable.

But if I put those figures - without the context of the film - in front of anyone would they guess Eternals? How many people would recognize the Eternals from the comics without prompting anyway, let alone these designs?

They made figures of multiple obscure (to most fans) characters and gave them designs not really close to the source material for those who did know them, which required the film to be a hit to have the figures be of interest for folks to spend close to $200 for the full set.
