Mattel MOTU Chronicles Movie Figures

I would prefer most of the line a tiny bit smaller, but if this is the scale they're going with across the board going forward, that's fine by me. It's just close enough for me to fudge it with any crossovers.

So, that Alcala Skeletor actually is one of the Core/Kid line toys. he is not a Chronicles or Masterverse figure. Toy Habits takes a look at it here.

I'm surprised by the soft goods on the figure. Both because they included soft goods, and because they aren't actually all that bad for the price point.

Interesting.

I'm honestly still not sure how I feel about these. Origins-style was irresistible because of the direct style of 'vintage toys, but with articulation.' These are slimmed down more to the point where they don't evoke anything for me. So they're just MOTU figures but with poor articulation. I really don't know if there's anything there for me.
Knowing me, all it's going to take is one figure that looks really cool and I'm done for. But for now... it's actually a bit of an easy pass.

I agree, @Damien. There's nothing appealing about these if they're not in the direct style that Origins has established. Are they smaller? The one thing I see as an improvement is the grip hands. They don't have raised thumbs so the accessories might have a chance of holding things indefinitely If they started adding ab articulation? Then I'd consider.

@NORM They're definitely noticeably smaller than Origins figures. So there's no way you're going to be displaying these together, which is another huge point against them. AND they don't seem to have the pop-apart feature of Origins either. They're also less articulated than Origins figures (no ankles at all).

Granted, I'm critiquing these as an adult collector when they are, ostensibly, for children. Not sure how many children need an Alcala Skeletor but there you go.

@Damien thanks for those clarifications. Very lame of them to make these not only incompatible with Origins, but a step backwards in some respects. Glad I can save some money, but Mattel better stop dicking around and make Two-Bad already. And don’t kill the 200X momentum either.

i wonder if the heads and gear can kitbash onto upcoming Chronicles figures? That'd be the only reason I'd buy them. But they are likely way too small for that, and not as stylized as origins.

Yeah - answered it yourself there but I'd say these are way too small for any legitimate swapping of parts. In the video, Origins Skeletor can just -barely- fit into the new Skeletor's armor, and the Origins armor looks ridiculous on the new Skeletor. So if the new Chronicles figures are even slightly bigger (taller/wider) than Origins, they won't be able to even wear the body armor.

I suppose it's possible, but seems very unlikely. And headswaps seem to be impossible.

It just barely fitting onto Origins is what makes me consider it. The chests of Chronicles will likely be a bit smaller than both Origins and Masterverse, which fairly comfortably swaps chest armors and heads between each other, at least from what I've seen. So there's definitely a chance!! Slim, but a chance.

If we get a standard Skeletor in Chronicles soon, I may have to pick up the Alcala figure and the Chronicles figures together just to play around. I quite like the gold.

Head swaps aren’t even compatible from the new line to Origins? Even Masterverse and Origins are compatible!
