Wrestling Toys (Mattel WWE, Jazwares AEW, etc.)

Amazon hit a price point on UE Shango/Warrior that was difficult to pass on at $37.95. This set catches me up on the Colosseum figures. If anyone hasn't seen them, the Colosseum Collection, has one of the packages I always regret having to toss. A heavy cardboard box holding two heavy card backs with a collector friendly slide off bubble, with the accessories hidden in a little box at the bottom to resemble the LJN poster location. The inside box is a gatefold of a front row with members of Mattel as faces in the crowd. They just take up too much space for two figures.

I bought the Piper's Pit set at Target last night.

I finished my Joe Hendry custom! Hopefully he gets an official Mattel figure soon.

Bunch of new reveals on TNI today. Or newish. Or first time we're seeing finished figures? I dunno, man.

Crush is going to be REALLY tempting if I'm able to get Ax and Smash, and an easy skip if I don't find them. I kind of wish he had different hands, though. First of all, why does every figure have gripping hands? Is everyone posing all of their figures with weapons/belts? But more importantly, my memories of Demolition are not just the actual wrestling, but the old Hasbro figures. And one (I think it was Ax?) had that body slam/press action with the big open hands. So between all three Demolition Elite figures, we still can't re-create that. Not a huge deal, but kinda sucks.

Guilia and Steph look really, really nice. As does black-and-red Seth. And, of course, Rhea.

A big disappointment and kind of 'slap in the face, what are you doing to yourself' is The New Age Outlaws. I just.. why? Why is Mattel so fucking cheap? Have they not made enough money with this license yet?

The slap in the face was... these are two of the figures that were a big reason why I sold off all my wrestling figures the last time I had a WWE collection. It just bothers me that they don't seem interested in getting these guys right. And it bothers me in particular with these two because Billy Gunn, true story, is one of my favorite wrestlers and has been since The Smoking Gunns. Like.. I would buy a Rocka-Billy Billy Gunn RIGHT NOW.

But look at these figures. Road Dogg always tucked his shirt in, so for 'in ring' you need him in that base body with the sculpted shirt. But they just paint up some skinny torso and it looks terrible as a shirt, first of all, and is representing someone like... 30 pounds lighter with 10 pounds more muscle than Road Dogg was on his best day. The pants aren't sculpted to look loose enough, and why does he look bored?

Then there's my boy Billy. Still using that same combination of long bare lower legs with those boots, resulting in a figure that doesn't look ANYTHING like Billy's actual ring attire. I just finished watching every RAW and PPV from the entire NAO and DX era of WWE and I don't think I saw Billy's skin below the thigh ONCE. There's literally no excuse for how fucking bad this looks and how they just keep doing it. Just a re-color of the same completely wrong Billy figure every goddamn time. Bothers me so much.

That Giulia figure is insane. Like, zoom in on that, how textured every part of her gear is. I need every Stardom and Marigold wrestler to do a year excursion to WWE at some point just for the figures. (Sorry the Outlaws figures are rough, though. I don't want to seem like I'm rubbing it in, I'm just really excited for this figure.)

Guilia looks great, Stephanie too but I'm already dreading how tall the figure will be considering the parts used. I'm definitely part of the problem, my expectations for Mattel are typically pretty low so i'll get these New Age Outlaws just to get 2 steps closer to a full DX lineup with double joints.

I POed the women a while back at DJC solely off the renders and Canadian scarcity, so it's rad they came out nice in the end

I might have to buy the Outlaws if I want the Charles Robinson parts. During RSC's holiday '24 sales I bought the re-releases, "From the Vault" versions. Those would've been good enough since these aren't a huge upgrade. The Vault version of Dogg had some iffy face printing, maybe a little too heavy on the eyeliner and RSC ended up sending me two instead of Scott Hall. They let me keep the extra and sent a Hall. It was a decent sized order and they chose the worst figure to double up on 😉

I was reading comments on Wfigs about unnecessary one-off tooling and someone posted this upcoming UE Cactus Jack with lying down hair. He also correctly pointed out Mick's huge biceps. I missed this on a livestream from last month. I'm spoilering because the picture looks huge on my laptop.

I have Giulia and Stephanie pre-ordered from Ringside. I got tired of missing the pre-orders from BBTS and EE. I would like that Gold Rock to use as a more menacing Molten Man. The one in that set from Amazon was not so menacing.

Target moved a stack of AEW to a clearance endcap and there was a Roddy Strong I was interested in buying at the right price. I scanned him, but it came up as not on file. That usually means it's not going any lower and will be sent to a Goodwill Store. I noticed a Target employee working the clearance, scanning, and organizing. So I asked him if there was a price on the figure. He said, "It was past the last markdown. I can sell it for $10. If you buy it, tell the cashier, Christian said $10." Then I said, "That price doesn't seem very Christian-like, can you do better?"

Okay, I didn't say that. I wish I thought of it in time. He would have to go down to at least $7.50.

I just saw a Cody Rhodes figure on BBTS that really looks like Ivan Drago from Rocky IV.

Scored an Ultimate Uncle Howdy and Tiffany Stratton at a local Target today. Also saw an Ultimate Eddie G and a couple of Ult Rey Rey in Phantom inspired gear from Halloween Havoc.

I got Summer Slam Chyna from Ringside. This is one I was planning to wait for Target/Walmart/Amazon, but then the new articulated waist was pointed out on the RSC livestream and I had to preorder. I don't know about that hairdo, I can't recognize it, maybe it's from the day she didn't blow dry her hair or ran out of hairspray before a house show in Poughkeepsie, NY? It looks a little flat. Compared to most Mattel WWE figures, the plastic for her face seems more noticeably different than the rest of her body. The whole head is a step back from previous Mattel Chyna figures. The rest looks pretty top notch for Mattel WWE. Lots of raised painted studs and grommets. The top portion of her outfit is a hard plastic overlay so they didn't have to paint skin. I liked her enough to want to preorder one from Amazon, but it was "currently unavailable".

I have to point out, she doesn't seem to have much waist twist and if you try to push her crunch too far, you will push her belly into the waistband of her outfit. I did that testing the ROM, leaving a faint mark where the softer torso plastic pushed into to the hard plastic of her shorts.
