U.S. Politics

I'd at least expect a book deal for MTG. You know we can't resist a good tell-all story. You know everyone, no matter how demonized they become nowadays, gets a small little niche fanbase who'll support them no matter what. Just depends how she attempts to brand herself- as a brave woman who stood up for what's right, as a scapegoat, as a martyr, etc. With any luck, she'll fade into relative obscurity in the next couple years and we'll never have to hear about her again.

Not surprised about the blow to nurses. Such an underappreciated field as-is that'll now be even more unsung. Hell, not that anyone will be able to even afford to see a nurse in the first place with the way things are going, but I do look forward to the day that someone in a position of power needs some medical care and is awakened to how bad it really is for the majority of Americans. If that day ever comes- they'll probably just play the victim.

MTG wants to run for president. It leaked a few weeks ago. This news legitimately caught me off guard. As a political junkie, it's easy to predict what ambitious narcissists will do. I think this is a miscalculation by whoever's guiding her. Leaving the spotlight is never a good idea for your political career.
She’s retreating from the field to regroup and plan a new incursion into American power.
I think she's banking on Trump's downfall and the dissolution of the power base of the MAGA cult. Then she can come back as a 'moderate Republican that always speaks truth to power - even against Trump.'
This is undoubtedly it. If I had to take a guess:

1) She'll run for Georgia governor next year. This, to me, would be a mistake. IMO, Georgia is our purplest state. It's hard for me to imagine a Republican winning next year in an incredibly toxic political environment. I think she would lose, and that would be the end of her career. She could also run for Senate, but she said she doesn't want to do that, and Ossoff would trounce her.

2) She'll wait for Trump's big collapse and attempt to swoop in and pick up the pieces, basically as Damien said. I think this would've gone better if she were still in power. Leaving Congress makes it look like she can't commit to things and is erratic (lol). It makes 2028 an all-in scenario for her. That wouldn't be the case if she hadn't quit her job. Like AOC, she could have as many bites at the apple as she wanted if she kept her seat. Resigning makes it even harder to win '28, which, again, is likely to be an extremely toxic political environment for Republicans. Still, I have little doubt that she could/would win the Republican nomination in 2028.

3) It was a grift all along. She just received her congressional pension. She'll retire to a cushy life of lobbying, influencing, or political punditry.

We're already seeing the narrative in action. "I couldn't reform things from the inside." She believes this is resounding messaging, and it might be, but it would've been far more effective if she had stayed in her seat until 2028. Two years is basically an eternity in the modern world. There's a chance that nobody remembers who she is by August 2027.

Yeah, I did think it was a little weird when she said "Tasty, tasty fear", spouted something about everyone floating, and then crawled into the sewers.

She scheduled her resignation for the day after she qualifies for her Congressional pension. That doesn't sound to me like someone trying to stay in politics.

She'd already started on an image correction course to run for wider office. I guess resigning looks better than losing an election, but it just takes her off the board early.

My take is that she was so used to being the bully, that once she realized she needed extra security to protect her from MAGA, she couldn't handle it. She got scared off by her own attack dogs.

I think two things can be true; her entire political career was a grift to get a government pension and fame for other projects AND she's going to try to stay in politics (or in his case, get back into politics) in the future. She has tasted the power that comes with being in the mid-tier level of the federal government. The benefits. The money. The favors. The access. She's NOT giving that up, in my opinion. But she can't stay in her current position as an enemy of both sides in a district that largely dislikes her.

As I said before, I do think she'll come back when she can re-brand herself as the lone Republican that was willing to give it all up in her refusal to bow to Trump once the Trumpism cult falls apart and Republicans are scrambling to adjust their image back to 'the moderate party.'

I don’t think MTG is the calculated type. She probably has offers in the private sector that are far more lucrative and than what she gets now. If she isn’t already, she’s going to be fabulously wealthy for branding herself as a massive piece of shit. Right now, it feels like it’s easy to get rich if you have absolutely no morals.

MTG is a fucking idiot.
But she's an idiot in a powerful position, with a lot of money. She's undoubtedly surrounding by advisors, publicists, other politicians, etc that are giving her advice on what her next steps should be.
