We're supposed to hear this month.

From the court reporting, it sounds like SCOTUS will shoot them down.

Well it is probably going to go one of three ways.

First SCOTUS might actually strike down Trump's tariffs completely. I find that the least likely scenario.

Second SCOTUS will strike down Trump's tariffs in a way that makes them look "clean" while Trump has an out to use another excuse to maintain the tariffs, which he has already foreshadowed doing. This is probably the most likely scenario.

Third SCOTUS actually upholds the tariffs by using some wild reasoning related to some super obscure law from more than 100 years ago. This is my second most likely scenario.

And SCOTUS dragging its feet to issue a ruling is just giving the Trump administration more time to figure out their work-around.

Yep, that was always where this was always headed. Hopefully this will all still be somewhat salvageable when we eventually get a different administration in place. I'm sure there will always be negative long-term impacts that can't be completely erased no matter what, though.

All this and none of it has really hit home for the US yet.

One of the biggest things that is coming if they don't reverse course soon is the break from the US dollar as the world reserve currency (and going back to gold for the short term). If the dollar is no longer the world reserve currency the last of real soft power the US has will be gone.

The other day I read someone explaining that a lot of Christians in America are accelerationist. They don't really care about preserving this world because they believe they're securing their spot for the next one. And that's why they support what they do and act like they do.

That is an interesting point that I've never considered. I'm not personally capable of really being able to comprehend or understand that mindset in any real way. I'm never going to intentionally crap on anyone's faith, but the simple idea that people actually think like that provides me with absolutely no comfort whatsoever. It actually terrifies me.

I've been thinking about that.

Having grown up in a fundamentalist Christian household, I can attest to this. MANY in that subgroup are actively trying to accelerate the Second Coming...as if they somehow have power over God (it didn't make sense to me when I was a kid, it certainly doesn't make sense to me as an adult). They somehow see it as their duty to get things to a point where the "Rapture" will be forced to occur. What really baffles me about it is that Trump pretty much fits what I grew up being taught was how the Antichrist would behave...yet these people are hailing him as a new Messiah.
