Toys, Tunes and Beer

I'm decidedly more of a Pearl Jam guy, but I love The Man Who Sold the World in all its forms. That Unplugged session is so legendary that I discovered it as a teenager ~15 years later.

They have been my favorite band for... shit... 33 years? Christ. But yeah, my mom and I would playfully act out the Nirvana Vs Pearl Jam debates on the way to school most mornings.

It’s still spooky season here at Toys, Tunes and Beer. I got the @gijoe Cobra Island Major Bludd back when people were trading TP do him. I got him at retail though. He is essentially the same figure as that CI version, with an update body. Off the top of my head I don’t know which one the new body is. The addition of the red highlights is nice. It makes him stand out a bit more now. Still the same head sculpt, but there was nothing wrong with that one to begin with. I’m at the end of my @treehousebrewco stash (for now). Brewster Hut is a New Zealand hopped IPA. Rakau and Nelson are the big ones. Gives some grape and plum flavors with a little pineapple at the end. My next round of beers will be local finds for a little bit. Nothing says Spooky Season more than @officialmisfits . A band I discovered late, but somehow know most of the lyrics. Songs like Mommy and Where Eagles Dare are the popular ones, but I’ve had Die My Darling, Death Comes Ripping and Earth AD creep in to my top five. This is a “best of” album, so of course it’s all banger after banger. They are a band that are on my bucket list of bands to see live.

Overall ratings. Figure 4.25:5. Beer 4:5. Album 4.5:5

Wasn't the rumor that the Cobra Island Bludd is what ultimately led to Dorkside's demise? So glad they did a new version. He's one of those 'never had/always wanted' figures when I was a kid.

I don't like how revered Nirvana is, even after so many years. I really, extra don't like how it's mostly deserved.
They were definitely a "right band at the right time" kind of deal. I enjoy them and have their entire discography, but that's because it ended up being 5 CDs including Unplugged? I still don't think of myself as some big Nirvana fan, but they did well with the short time they had.

Fun story; despite being a huge Nirvana fan (and a fan of other '90s grunge); I generally do not like Pearl Jam and will actively change the song if they come across my Spotify.

When I posted that, I knew in my bones that someone would reply saying as much. I thought it might be you.

I live within shouting distance of Eddie Vedder. I hope I run into him one day. Guy's responsible for some of the best songs ever written.

The overplay of Jeremy is what got me to cut Mtv out completely. Soundtracks became my big way of finding new music since I refuse to willingly listen to the radio, until I got a job at Tower and was exposed to all sorts of new things I got into.

Not to hijack the thread further, but I've been to Seattle several times and love being there, but the first time was in 1993. My uncle (the combat gynecologist) was living in Bremerton at the time so we went up to visit him. That road trip was also what finally did in my parents' relationship, but I got to see the MLB wall before it was gone.

I feel attacked.

To be clear, I don't think of it as hating on PJ or anything. I fully recognize their contribution to the scene and that they have tons of fans. I'd even say they're almost certainly more technically proficient than Nirvana - and their songwriting is 'technically' better as well. I just don't find that I like any of their music.
They're just another Beatles to me; a band everyone says is great, and I can intellectually understand the arguments they make, but that I still cannot tolerate.

Okay, I can respect that.
