My youngest cat sneezed right into my face while browsing the forum, which encouraged me to finally make this thread.

Tell us about your little guys. Photos encouraged.

I was always a cat person, but had one dog (a dachshund named Howie) as a kid who was such a wonderful companion. I moved a lot as a kid, so I appreciated having that one guy always with me whom I could count on.

One of my kids is allergic to cats so we've never had one but we did get a dog a few years ago and she is such a perfect dog. Patient, loving, protective, etc. half Aussie shepherd and I wouldn't be surprised to learn her dad was a wolf. I will figure out how to do pictures. She loves to pretend she is ferocious but she's incredibly sweet and always gentle.

One of our dogs growing up was an Aussie. Her favorite toy was a bowling ball. She would push it across the yard and wait for someone to throw it, then she'd chase it down and herd it. Loved baths. She would go outside after a bath and just do laps around the 1 acre yard next door for 15 minutes.

Mine does laps as well! Sometimes I'll just stand there and watch her gallop like a manic mini horse. We were talking about trying to get just one sheep for her to have a job.

I'm gonna mention the bowling ball to my wife though.

I've had pets my whole life - dogs and cats mostly. I love animals generally, but I'm definitely more of a cat person than anything else. Right now we have four cats; Tybalt, Anya, Hela, and Anders. Anders is the newest addition - just about a year old now but already bigger than all the others (who are around 11, 11, and 8). He likes to jump up on my shoulders and hang out there, but as I said he is actually fucking huge. Yesterday he scared the shit out of me because he came bolting up toward me to jump on me but I hadn't put a shirt on yet. I literally had to jump backwards and be like 'noooooooo' to avoid massive claws in my shoulders and chest.

I love them all, though. They're great. I haven't figured out pictures on here yet. Maybe eventually.

Alright. We need pics! I’ll start.

Ugh... I just had to put down my 21 year old cat Kali 2 weeks ago. Crushed me.

So sorry, TFitz.
My cat Oliver is 13 this year, and I try not to dwell on the fact that he is getting “old” in cat years. But I dwell on it a lot.

I’ll write a full post at some point about the story of “Ols” and how he found me and loved me when I couldn’t love myself and literally saved my life at least twice, how he made my wife fall in love with him too, and how he has been my best friend, companion, and my True North for over a decade, but for now: just a picture.

I'm sorry, TFitz. There's nothing quite like losing a pet. They're your housemate, companion, and ride-or-die.

My 16-year-old is getting up there and starting to accumulate health problems. We're just trying to enjoy every day we have with him.

Sorry to hear that. Puggies are just the best little goofballs. We lost one before her time before getting these 2. I’ll never heal from it. Sympathy for all who’ve lost little ones. It’s so hard. It’s like losing your best friend AND your arm because pets are sort of integrated into your body itself.

Sorry to hear that, man. That's the worst.

My wife used to joke that our cat Loki was my true soulmate. Always together. He ended up with diabetes. Cost me around 10-15k to help him and we still ended up losing him a year later after having him for 13 years. Worst part was he died when I had to go out of town for work - so I my wife and kids called me crying and freaking out as he was dying -while I was driving to a different province.- And then I had to stay out there and complete the job. Worst few weeks of my life, I'd say.

Then we lost our other older cat, Cringer, almost exactly a year later.

I love our cats like crazy - but there's still a hole in my heart from those two.

14 year old pic. Crazy how the old phones couldn't handle eyes. Scary eyes is Kali, who just passed. Her mom ('Ticia - short for Morticia) is on top and Hobbes is the tabby. Bottom pic is Dusty. They've all passed now, but they all live for 15+ years.
