The Official AT Wrestling Thread

I watched some of the Unreal documentary series on Netflix because I remember watching a documentary ages ago about Jake the Snake and the guy who was Mankind, and I think a third guy.... and that was really interesting. So while I'm still not at all into wrestling or following it, I'm more fascinated by these people and what they have to go through for these productions.

Liked this quote from Chelsea Green:

“Look at where being a professional loser has gotten me. Just saying, if you Google my name and my stats, they’re not great… I was trying so hard to be a professional wrestler. And then when I became Laurel Van Ness, I was like oh my god, I’m doing way less work, and people like it way more. What have I been doing this whole time? And from then it kind of spiraled, and I realized, okay if that’s what I bring to the table, then who cares if I win or lose? They’re not watching to see if I win or lose. They’re watching to see the ridiculous stuff that comes out of my mouth, the bumps that I take, and stuff like that. Life has been so much better since I stopped trying to be a professional wrestler. It really is, it’s great!”

She's like the female Miz now, and that is a compliment. I feel like Harley Cameron could do this role as well from more of a face side of things., and I hope Tony keeps her out of the death matches and what not and lets her just be silly with enough bite to win here and there.

I mainly quoted this because to me this is the realization many wrestlers probably need to have - there will only be a few wrestlers at any given moment who top the card in the "wrestling" side of things where wins and championships matter. Everyone else is supporting cast to liven up the show. Fans get too caught up in whether a wrestler not getting a title is "buried" but I suspect the best performers just want to get TV time, be part of the supporting storylines, and have a major storyline push into the spotlight once a year or so.

First of all, Chelsea Green is a smart-as-fuck lady.
Second of all, she's right.

The reality of the business is that no matter how good you are, you are still one many. There's only so much room at the top and sometimes it doesn't matter how good you are. If you can't embrace a role in the industry outside of 'I gotta be the winner and have all the championships all the time' then you might find yourself not useful and therefore not used.
Heath Slater was great for this too. "I've got kids!" Loved it.

Goldberg for instance has never realized he was over because without being booked as a powerhouse he had nothing going for him.

I am hoping they have Gunther retire Cena, but be respectful enough as the better man, that Cena can go out saying he was just beat. Then have Gunther retire AJ, and then have Gunther retire Brock - maybe with help from Cena. Gunther is a guy who could be the unstoppable force if booked correctly.

Based on several of his interviews, I don't think Goldberg is smart enough to even understand wrestling is fake. He still seems to think that wins and losses and streaks matter to how good or bad you are as a performer. This is a guy that accused WWE of trying to 'bury him' by giving Asuka a winning streak. Because only Goldberg can have that... for some reason.

I'm down with that. Kind of the rebirth of 'The Legend-killer" gimmick, but basically way more hardcore.
