Star Wars Movie and Streaming Series Discussion

I'm not a big fan of the ST, but I can find things I enjoy about them... except in TROS. I can't think of one thing I like about it. Not a scene or anything. There are concepts I thought would have been neat but oh well.
I like that we see a yellow lightsaber on screen. 😅 I hate that Kylo's helmet got put back together, but I guess if they were going to, how they did it looks cool as well. Love Babu Frik. And....that's about it.

Rise of Skywalker is the edging of Star Wars movies. They kept coming so close to doing something cool, then chickened out.

"Good lord! Rey killed Chewbacca with her uncontrolled power! What a powerful moment that really drives home her- oh, nevermind."

"Aww, C3P0 let his memory be wiped for the sake of saving his friends. The cowardly droid died a hero- backup disk?"

I don't know if a lot of people agree with me, but I thought Han and Luke's deaths in the previous movies were affective and well-done. The heroes of the orig trig died in meaningful ways. Until you get to RoS and they just kind of don't.

I can't think of one thing I like about it. Not a scene or anything.
I thought Han's ghost-visit with his son was really good. You have to accept that just anybody can become one with the force, but the scene itself is really good.

And yeah, Babu Frik. That's all I got, though.

Now, I've reread the description of Adam Driver's sequel pitch a few times here and elsewhere, just to make sure I'm understanding it right, and I'm still baffled why everybody is all "Disney was crazy for not making this." Kylo Ren is one of my top favoritest Star Wars characters from any era, and I cannot see any kind of appeal in it.

A Knights of Ren sequel-prequel movie? Hell yeah. But a 'let's just say he's still alive' fanfic movie? -the Hell?

That one was just a stopgap since Carrie died. That one doesn't bother me because we all know why they did it - and like you said, that scene was good.

The cardinal red First Order Stormtroopers are my favorite thing in ROTS - wish they'd been red the whole trilogy. And I really liked Rey's outfit, despite it never changing, ever, or even the white getting dirty. Also liked her yellow lightsaber, despite the how behind it. Crazy Hasbro never even did that right.

I would love to see all the Sequel action figure prototypes that exist that will never be made - because we know they had to be ready in case. Probably just digital files, but I'm curious.

I feel like this Kylo Ren not-movie has the potential to turn into the Snyder Cut of Star Wars. I hope not. I have a strong dislike for bringing characters back from the dead so I'm not lamenting the loss of such a movie.

Disney saying "No" to Fincher is not a surprise. The company seems to view Star Wars as having a very basic formula that they think anyone can execute. Even if fans dump on the sequel trilogy, it still made the company a lot of money and, in the end, it's all they care about. Why chance it by having an "auteur" director in charge of the entire project? Especially if the director has no interest in creating the next Grogu they can market the hell out of.

Exciting news! I don't honestly know if I've ever seen the originals as they were released. If I have, it's been a while. Though I'm sure that they'll at least touch up the picture a bit to make it clearer, and some nerds will complain that it's too clear to be the version they saw back then. 😅

I know you are joking, but the original versions were very high quality - good 35mm film is still better than 4K HD in both color grade and resolution especially when used in the correct lighting. Having said that, the prints made and distributed to theaters in 1977 likely were lacking a bit given the reproduction process, but will be nearly impossible for it to look better than it did in 1977, unless they go through and clean up some of the optical effects and wipes (like in TESB where you can see - on TV mostly with the brightness way up - some transparency during the overlaid effect shots on Hoth).

I am old enough to recall the minor ruckus caused by adding Episode IV: A New Hope to the re-release prints, although the real ruckus was seeing Episode V in front of TESB...which happened before they re-released ANH the next year. I am sure Starlog had it all covered...

I saw Star Wars a couple of months after it was out, my parents had no desire to wait in line for it during the peak, but saw Empire the Saturday morning after the Friday opening and Return on the Friday...

Was looking at these 4K clips and it's wild to me how much of a step up there was from the OG to ESB. Vader especially looks so shonky in the original..!

While I get the intent is to offer something representative to the original print, I wouldn't mind if they did touch up things like the matte boxes around the spacecraft

Seriously! The difference between ANH and ESB is a massive gulf, then they didn't necessarily improve more with ROTJ but stepped it up at least.
Thank you for posting this!

Honestly, when they did the SE and redid some of the dogfighting... I kinda wished they'd done all of it or none of it. Make the Falcon move more like it did in ESB, etc. I'll live with the Jabba scene if we get updated ship shots.
