Agreed. Is it bad that I kinda want someone to die? Obviously, I don't want death just for the sake of death- it has to mean something. But after seeing Rogue One and Andor, where there are actual stakes and tension, it's changed my perception. Not everything has to be RO or Andor, of course- I didn't go into Skeleton Crew expecting them to off half the kids- but even killing a well-liked secondary character can raise the stakes significantly.
Obviously we don't know the plot yet, and, given Gosling and Levy's participation, it may be a bit on the lighter side, but also that it miiiiight be a bit smaller, more human scale, which may raise the stakes. If it is a Top Gun-esque movie like a lot of folks want/suspect, then give us our Goose moment.
I kinda hate that I've become that fan, always talking about "stakes", but I feel they've played it safe for a bit. The Chewie fake-out in TROS was the final nail in the coffin for me. If you're gonna commit, commit! We know they can do the heavier fare when need be. Not saying you have to go dark dark, but a little emotion and tension can go a long way!
