Star Wars Black Series

Kyle and Second Sister arrived yesterday.

Ordered two Sisters for multiple displays. I'm cutting back, but Gellar was my all time formative years crush for a decade, so had to get Sister masked and unmasked. But it's interesting that between the two, one of them clearly has a superior paint job with much more life to the expression. I chalk it up to the eyes and eyebrows on one of them just being off by mere pixels but it makes a huge difference in the personality and life that comes out of the face print. I ran it by my professional photographer and my likeness police friend, so I know I'm not crazy. Even though I'm crazy.

But Kyle. Kyle is the surprise hit. Kyle actually made me mist up. The expanded universe is my Star Wars. Some people like the original. Some people like the prequels. But the expanded universe, all the multimedia, was what I actually love about Star Wars.

And just having Kyle brought back memories of all those games in the '90s, and all the cities and states I lived in when I played them. The friends I made in various school computer labs playing Dark Forces and Jedi Knight with other nerds during school hours. The fact I can put him next to Mara (she's not costume correct, but whatever) for some Jedi Knight and expansion action.

We all have those action figures that just really hit us on an intrinsic soul level, touching some mirrored fragment that we misplaced along the way into the cynical cruel adult world. Mara and Jaina helped me find some, mine and this figure unexpectedly brought back another shard, even as I cut my fingers to reassemble that feeling. Even Dash hits.

I hope they push this Gaming initiative. It would be cool to get Mysteries of the Sith Mara. I need Jan Orso to help Kyle. Get me Guri. I might track down the new Jango solely for that Game rep. My Black Series shelf is curated and sold down to Gaming and Comics, and it brings me such joy. More than even the OT movie figures.

I love when this hobby pays out.

No subjective worry needed.

From the article and other posts I have seen, but can't find at the moment, SW was an underperforming brand for Hasbro last year. Seems TF and Marvel did well enough, and some posts indicated that GI Joe also did well enough for being a smaller brand (in the boys action toys segment).

So yeah SW probably needs to up it's game for Hasbro but they should get a boost with the Mando/Grogu movie this year. That should draw more eyeballs to the franchise and Grogu still seems to be a draw for toys.
I do know toys have been flagging for Hasbro in general (I follow TTRPG news a lot a lot and the thing that comes up is that Magic: The Gathering is their license to print money but everything else needs a LOT of caretaking).

I wonder if Mando and Baby Yoda will give the brand a shot in the arm. The figures they're making this year and last are absolutely stupidly cool so I'm hoping they keep going for a good long time.

I wouldn't say they're selling poorly, per se. There's definitely figures that hang around, but it's totally character/project dependent. Vernestra and Bazil have stuck around my area, as well as the evergreen Vader (I totally get the point of the evergreen figures, but I still do worry that they either skew either our or the retailer's definition of what's actually selling). Some Targets I've been to have only a couple Vaders out at a time and replenish as need be, and some just seem to put the whole shipper out at once- they're stupid with Vaders, and they just hang around for months and months. Ironically, I think the evergreen figure that would work best would be a trooper- Storm or Clone. Especially whenever there's a slight sale, I can totally see nerds going "why not?" and grabbing another army builder to customize or throw on the shelf.

The other figures that have hung around here seem to be from the Disney+ projects that didn't do too well- Acolyte and Skeleton Crew. Both of which I love- the latter of which, I think a lot of fans would love too if they'd just give it a chance and not take themselves so seriously. Enough to get figures of? Arguable, but still.

Not always, of course, but saber wielders tend to sell pretty darn well- hence every single Clones of the Republic pack selling out pretty quickly. As do Mandalorians, cool aliens, and Maul himself, so by that metric, this Maul wave is a slam dunk for a lot of people. New projects almost always tend to raise interest in a line, and since the next 2 are tried-and-true (character-wise, at least), I think we'll see an inevitable resurgence of interest.

I heart her.

I received the Bespin duel set yesterday and opened it last night. Beautiful set. ...
This is the second copy of this set I bought, the first I’m keeping unopened. I still have a bunch of these box set type multipacks to keep carded.
I totally get having two, but in this case, couldn't just resealing the one give you the exact same look in your collection? :)

Also opened the Bespin set last night and Luke's faceprint is off just enough to bother me - and at this price, not okay. Same thing happened with Palpatine - the figure I'm BUYING the whole expensive set for!

The lack of instructions was frustrating, then I realized each piece had a unique imprint. That's at least clever engineering, but no shots anywhere of just the base assembled to go off of is annoying. I put the plastic pieces underneath but now I can't get them out. This thing is so huge it won't fit where I wanted, so this platform is now going to my main Clone Wars trio.

This entire Wave of Kyle, Seventh, and Jedi Dooku are amazing. I can't speak on Quinlan yet, as I don't have him. But FINALLY Pulse has shipped Quinlan Vos, the figure I wanted most. I can't wait to get him. He will probably be here Monday,

Having just got the Seventh, and the Eleventh being on the way, I really wish Hasbro would do a Deluxe Nineth Sister Inquisitor from the Jedi Fallen Order Games.

The latest inquisitor figures have definitely gotten me to do a "well, maybe I could just" but... Nope nope, sticking to my limits. They look awesome though. I'd kinda wanna put her helmet on Reva though. I like Inquisitors masked and caped apparently.

Ugh, you guys - don't make me also want all these Inquisitors!

Is this an accurate list of all we know, plus now the 11th Brother? And is Marrok really an Inquisitor? I must have missed that when his puff of smoke evaporated in disappointment.

I grabbed this from an internet search, it may have originated from Reddit, so BIG grain of salt!!

Thanks for doing this. I've been meaning to gather all the Inquisitor info in one place and this is super helpful. (They've done a solid job covering a good number of them already in SWBS!)

I've had Dash Rendar for a bit but just opened him. He is my first SW figure with the ball-joint wrists. Our resident lovable-grump, @Damien, has way understated how bad these are. Absolute dogshit. Fractionally better than a swivel joint. What a giant, steaming, step backward.
