Star Wars Black Series

Continuing my "can't run outside cos stupid snow, watching Star Wars on the treadmill" week and while all digs at the prequels remain valid, rewatching Attack of the Clones today:
- Zam Wessell is RIDICULOUSLY overdue
- I'm really glad we're getting Taun We and a Geonosian, though I wish it was a cheap army build for the latter
- Watto really let himself go between movies, for a scumbag slaver he's s pathetic in Episode II it's like watching someone's asshole grandfather who's really gone to seed but won't get help
- Did we ever get an astromech unit to stand in for Obi-Wan's? I kinda want R4 but feel like one of those random droid packs came with one who could fit
- Would love a couple of random "inverse ninja law" Jedi from the arena
- I would pay a stupid amount of money for a Black Series scale nexu and I know that's stupid to say
- Also the leader of the Techno Union and Poggle the Lesser would be fun figures, and baby Boba
- Basically all the aliens. Dex is stupid but he'd be a fun action figure. All the little aliens everywhere. SANDPEOPLE VARIETY PACK.

We'll never get it but "casual Jango" is sexy as fuck with his jammy jams shirt on Kamino. We need more Black Series Padmes, they just killed it in every costume change for her but there's a few I was like "this is DISrespectful" with how much the camera loves her. Cliegg Lars deserves a figure because he's a real one, man, lost a leg and sixteen friends to save his woman when Qui-Gon just left Shmi there to die.

I also haven't rewatched in like 18 years so with fresh eyes, man, Hayden is trying so hard with terrible dialogue, it's like he's in a sword fight with a cardboard tube but he's doing his absolute best. This poor kid got so much shit for nothing that was his fault.

I also love that Disney puts an "implied tobacco use" warning on it because of the fucking death sticks jok.
 
I love the Prequels so much. It's not even a bit of an exaggeration when I say I would buy any and all characters from the prequels. I love the Original Trilogy too, but I double love the Prequels.

Some figures coming soon that are either confirmed or rumored are as follows

Then the Blind Kanan Jarrus is still coming, and it is likely a Deluxe Pong Krell from Clone Wars is coming.

Then there is a Legends 2 pack that is definitely coming, but it's not confirmed who is in it. However, last year in the leaked lists, Darth Sion and his Master Darth Traya were rumored. So, some people are speculating the Legends 2 Pack could be them.

There are also a Gaming Greats 2 Pack and Clones of the Republic 2 Pack confirmed to be coming, but it's not confirmed who is in them. The Clones of the Republic 2 Pack is a new one, and not the upcoming Plo Koon and Commander Wolffe pack.

I would buy pretty much all of this.

Blind Kanan is such an overdue figure. We need him. I kinda like that they waited to make Pong Krell because some of the work they've done in Marvel Legends lately has really shown what they can do with multi-armed characters - I think they're at the stage in design they can make that evil SOB sing as an action figure.

Gawd, Traya and Sion. KOTOR 2 was a MESS with its rushed release, but there is so much good shit in there. Sion is TERRIFYING. And Traya is a great nemesis. I'd buy the entire cast of KOTOR 1 and 2.

11th Brother is kinda needed now, too. I know he doesn't get a lot of screen time but he's a beautiful design.

One thing I meant to mention with my rewatch - I think there's about 45 seconds in the Dooku/Anakin duel that is the only moment in the prequels where we get how fucking TERRIFYING a lightsaber duel is. The duels in the OT are slow and quiet and spooky and the prequels are more dynamic and vibrant, but we actually do get a "this is the most lethal thing you will ever experience" moment between them there that stands out.

Also, Sir Christopher Lee delivering every fucking line like it's Shakespeare needs to be noted. I know it's a silly script. But Lee was like I'm a goddamned professional and I will make this sound good if it kills me.
 
Something I forgot to mention, it has been confirmed this year there will be another Wave of Black Series Archive figures. I don't know who they might include, but I wish they'd do Leia as Jabba's prisoner with a new likeness and everything. Such an iconic outfit but that original figure is so outdated.

I know why they avoid the prisoner costume now but it'd be nice to get one last version with modern face print tech.
 
For as imperfect as AOTC is, it has some really cool, fun characters. It's nostalgic for me because it was the first Star Wars toy line that I really went all out for. I had a fair amount of TPM figures, but was still too young to really appreciate it. But my age, along with the "early 00's cool factor" of all the action poses meant I was all in. I'm pretty sure I can form a direct trace to all my life's ails from not getting the Geonosis Battle Arena as a kid. 😂 I know I've stated before that the release of new Star Wars movies were really the only time my Dad and I saw eye-to-eye, and AOTC was where it really began, so it holds fond memories for me.

I'm glad we're finally getting a few more AOTC figures (even if Watto is a TPM figure masquerading as AOTC). I really hope for a lot more soon. Now that a Poggle the Lesser mold exists, and we're getting the basic Geonosians, we need him. I'd love my favorite intergalactic DJ, Wat Tambor. Zam Wessell is, as many others stated, long overdue. I could go on and on. It's still a bit crazy to me that some of the movies/projects have like 20-30 figures in the Galaxy Packaging already, but most of the prequels only have a handful. I mean, I get why, but still.


Don't forget about the Plo and Wolffe 2 pack going up today, for those who want it. Been wanting CW Plo for ages now, so I'm hopeful. Noon for Pulse members, 1 for us peasants. AOTC is when I realized I needed to stop seeing movies with my dad. He had it in his head that he wanted to see the new Star War with his Star War lovin' son, so we went together and he talked through the whole damned thing. If he wasn't bitching about how bad it was, he was doing commentary and bad MST3K jokes. I get it's not a good movie, but also shut the fuck up!
 
As much as I'd love a Hutt-Slayer/Slave/Prisoner/Bikini/Casual Friday Leia, I don't see it happening. If Disney wouldn't even let them release a Mola Ram because of the controversy, then I don't see them relenting here either. It's not entirely 1:1, I realize, but still. They seem to have put their foot down. I'm more than happy to eat my words if it comes to fruition (and if it does, it'll 100% be called "Hutt-Slayer" or "Prisoner"), but in the meantime, I ain't getting my hopes up.
 
Honestly at this point if I could find a head that'll stay on the figure I do have (I somehow, can't remember exactly how, got her second-hand and her head doesn't like to stay on the body) I can live without a new one. I also agree we're really unlikely to ever se her again but who knows, leadership changes, etc.
