Skurge the Executioner BAF Wave

Nope, I don't. I really don't. Hate is a strong word. Warbow is a toy. It's an ugly toy, but it's a toy. As long as I don't have to look at it, I'm okay.

But it was upsetting for sure. I was at SDCC last summer as I always am. And I talked to the Legends team, as I always do. And I was told that figures that have been long requested by members of this community (Asgardians, Serpent Society, Bucky and Toro) were problematic. But you know, Warbow apparently isn't. Same with Pink Iron Man.

Iron Man I get (to an extent). It's Iron Man. He's gonna sell regardless of what color they use. Maybe not to comic fans but he'll sell well enough. Casual collectors will buy it to give to their significant other or to put it on their desk at work.

Warbow I don't get. Of all the characters in the Marvel Universe to stick in BAF wave ... I mean, I don't get it. That's what really bothers me. Don't tell me Agardians and Golden Age are a tough sell and then turn around and give us this guy. That does not compute.

But hate? Nope. Hate is something I reserve for fascists and dictators. Not toys.
 
I mean that's just been the BAF game since day one. Right now within immediate eye shot I can see a figure pile of Red Widow, blue Thor, Wolfsbane, hologram Iron Man, Ironheart, Morlun, and NWH black/gold Spider-man who I only got because I wanted their BAF pieces and now can't even give away. And that's just one spot in my house. There's a number more buried away in storage boxes.

Fortunately it hasn't happened in a long time, but I think forcing comic fans to buy movie figures for comic BAFs was the more scummy move on Hasbro's part.

I'm still without any parts to Blackheart since I wanted zero figures from that wave besides the BAF and now there's one part that's ended up prohibitively expensive.
 
I think alot of people just bust your balls about it. Teasing and joking, just because of your strong opinions. We do it to our friends all the time don't we?

It was his medicated rants the first couple days after they debuted Warbow. It was like 4-5 posts in a row complaining about it. It was so silly, but it drew plenty of attention. So much that he will forever be associated with Warbow.

Well, it hasn't always been that way. Back when the BAF first started, Marvel Legends was a comic based line and they only cost about ten bucks each. In those ToyBiz days I wanted all the Legends they produced and I think most fans felt the same. The line was a lot more plentiful at retail, too. They were always at Walmart, Target, TRU and KB Toys. The BAF was a beautiful idea then. It was like getting an extra figure for free.

Now you've got movie figures, video game figures, modern mixed in with classic comic figures, and every type of Wolverine, Spider-Man and Iron Man variant you can think of. Oh, and they cost three times as much now.

So yeah, it sucks. People say "Well, just sell the ones you don't want". It's not that easy. And I didn't get into this hobby to be a retailer, anyway. I don't want to do that.

So this is kind of where we're at now. I can and will talk to Hasbro about it at SDCC but I doubt if what I say matters. If they're making money with the BAFs they're going to keep doing it.

The Origin story (that was the name of the comic, "Origin") established his birth year as 1834, so when Canada entered WW2 in 1939 he would have been 105.

Overall this is a cool looking figure. I like these goofy outlier figures once and awhile. But my main problem with him is he isn’t really a Marvel Legend to me. Maybe a Hasbro Legend but not Marvel. He reminds me of when we got Kamandi in the Mattel DCUC line because he was a favorite of Toy Guru. Someone on the Legends line loves Crystar. So here we are with Warbow. Sure wish someone on the team loved classic Mandarin, Mantis, Swordsman, and Man-ape.

I also always assumed someone besides Marvel created Crystar, but I just looked it up and nope--Marvel created Crystar and still holds the copyright on it.

Honestly, I'm still in denial they ever established where he came from. My petty hill I'll die on is refusing to call him James Howlett. No matter how many iterations of continuity has come along since Origin.

I agree wholeheartedly. I can't even remember the last time I completed a BAF because I just don't want to buy figures I don't want, even if it's to build one I do. If it's only one figure I don't want in the wave, I can live with that because I just kind of view it as the price of the BAF itself. If I have to buy half a wave I don't want though? Uh uh...not doing it. This wave I really wanted WWBN & Phantom Rider...and Skurge. I'll be waiting on a "deluxe" release down the road because I'm not buying a dumb looking Iron Man, or yet another Enchantress that can't stand, just to complete him.

I remember when the first couple ToyBiz BAFs hit, I was thrilled to get Galactus and a Sentinel, but I also wanted every figure they offered in those waves (and, as you noted, they were a whole lot cheaper then). Nowadays, I have bins of BAF parts for figures I'll probably never complete.

Probably wouldn't hurt to jump over to the trade forum and make a post in the BaF parts thread. There really hasn't been much activity over there, but you never know; maybe you could assemble a couple of those BaFs you have forsaken?

I just might. Used to do that a lot back in the day...would trade BAF parts and figures for various things with other Fwooshers.

Something I’ve been meaning to do as well. I’m more than happy to just give the parts away for shipping at this stage.
