Quitting/putting collecting on pause

I love to annoy my s/o when she's putting on lipstick by saying "I'd fuck me. I'd fuck me so hard".

:ROFLMAO: I've done this myself! Every once in a while I'll time my shaving to be at a moment when I know she'll also be in the bathroom getting ready for the day. That way I can look longingly at myself in the mirror when I say it. I usually get a towel thrown at me lol

one time I rushed up behind my mom with that voice saying, "Hey lady!" and she immediately pulled her fist back as she turned around to punch me.

My mother watched Creepshow 2 with my brother and I when we were younger, and we'd ALWAYS reach out through the backseat window and tap on the driverside window while saying "Thanks for the ride, lady."

Probably not the smartest thing to do when the car is in motion, but it never failed to get a scream out of her.

I've done similar. Looking into the mirror, and say "Hon, you are one lucky woman." Got the same reaction. Or a snort.

I'm in the predicament of being about 95% capacity but I'm having trouble coming up with a good sell list. I've been stuck since last year after several years of doing a good job pairing down and this is the first tax year in a while without having to deal with a 1099K.
On Sunday I was staring at a wall of bins in my storage/washing machine room and I see two old school Rubbermaid tubs of Playmates Simpsons on the upper left shelf. I pull them down thinking this would be a good place to start. The Simpsons are the last part of my collection that wasn't organized well. I bagged all the figures before storage, but all the accessories were mixed together in a separate bin. I spread everything out on the floor and begin organizing with the help of Simpson.fandom.com. As I'm working my way through, I'm becoming more amused by the wacky characters and accessories, like Patti's "Pack a day workout" video or Larry Burns' "Gone Drinkin'" sign. Damnit, I realized I'm keeping these Simpsons figures, at least for now. Also, I noticed I'm missing Manjula and the Octuplets. They're adorable.

Happens to me all the time. I'll think something is an easy sell until I start to really look at it, and suddenly I remember why I bought it. It's a vicious cycle.

I had a painter at the new house yesterday starting on our 2 main spaces that need to be done before we move in, so I was going through boxes and bins of things from one storage unit that we closed, and moved into the basement.

There are going to be multiple rounds of this, I can already see, but I did get 3 bins/boxes set aside for selling thus far, and a few things I need to make sure are complete in their boxes (a few older imports I bought and actually kept the boxes for).

I feel this heavily; been experiencing some of it lately myself. I think it also doesn't help that there seems to be a sense of whimsy to older toys there just isn't anymore (most of the time, anyway). Those kinds of ridiculous accessories or features, or tertiary characters we'd never get nowadays. Yeah, a lot of it has to do with the fact that they're Simpsons figures, but even nowadays, most of the accessories we get with the Jakks figures (if any) are all pretty basic. Not that I don't love the strides we've made with likenesses, articulation, and all that, but seeing older figures that prioritized fun makes you remember the old days, and it makes it harder to part with.

I never understood the retro craze. I mean, with the advances we've made, why would anyone NOT want the best, most improved version of the characters they love? I didn't get this need to have modern properties in that old school Kenner aesthetic.

But the older I get, the more that I realize that while, yes, I understand and appreciate that I viewed many of my older toys through rose colored glasses--because let's be honest, we only knew that as being the best because that's all that we had and it's like video game graphics in that regard...

...the joy I get in obtaining old grails, old figures, old retro stuff from the 80s and 90s, even the early naughts, is so much more felt than most modern items what with the laser print tech on faces, and all the articulation, and a million accessories that I will inevitably lose to the carpet monster.

So I get it now. I appreciate it now. I find myself loving most of the Trick or Treat Studios offerings. Those 5 points of articulation lumps of plastic. Because it reminds me of simpler times, it reminds me of happier times, it reminds me my enthusiastic, optimistic youth. It just makes me so nostalgic and that cannot be replaced.

Right? Sometimes I think it's so silly when people make such a fuss about certain articulation choices, or if the likeness is a hair off, or what have you. Like, I know we're spoiled for good products now (and yeah, some of them cost an arm and a leg, so quality should be a given) but it wasn't all that long ago that we not only dreamed of having what we have now, but were just fine with things looking like what they did back then. "As good as it gets" is all relative. Like old PS1 games, and how realistic we thought they were back then. Whatever was lacking, we were more than content letting our imagination fill in the rest.

And, mind you, I totally count myself in that. I'm obviously every bit as guilty of complaining about whatever thing on my figures nowadays. It's easy to get swept up in nitpicking when you finally have something you've been dreaming of, but the important thing is to be grateful you have it at all (however corny that sounds). After you accept that, the joy usually comes automatically, I find. Ultimately, I'm an easy guy to please. I've gotten some older figures here recently that by today's standards are pretty terrible (heck, they may have even been pretty bad by old standards too), but they bring me so much joy just because of how silly they are, or because someone I love thought of me and got it for me. There are different levels of enjoyment; not everything will be- or needs to be- some little mini work of art.

I'd love to somehow return to the easier times, when I just didn't care so much about all these little things. They may lead to a better product (or not- it may all just be smoke and mirrors), but if you can't let yourself enjoy something for what it is at a fundamental level, then what's even the point, you know?

Sorry, just been nostalgic as of late....

For me I love when they reissue old figures/vehicles/toys. It gives me a chance to get a new copy of an old favourite. I am at a point where I don't really care that much about having the original copy of a toy that is 40+ years old and could be more fragile than tissue paper. Look at ARAH GI Joe figures from the 80s. Some of them are falling apart in the package, especially figures, and you can see it. Why would I want to possibly pay hundreds of dollars for a figure that is already falling apart? Even more recent stuff like early ML have gummyloose parts and the plastic seems to leech some weird substances. Hell even the poor Bronies (do they exist anymore?) have to deal with Pony cancer on their toys.

So yeah I could pay hundreds for a figure from that era, or I could get a reissue that is pretty much an exact copy of the original for much less and it will probably last the rest of my life. That or I am also happy with getting updated, better articulated versions of characters I love. Especially for things like Transformers where I have a lot of love for G1 toys but I am fine with reissues for a few characters and the rest I am happier with updated/modern versions in my collection.

I don't know what you guys are talking about in regards to old video games, Madden 99 looked exactly like a live television broadcast on release and still does to this day! Yall crazy with this rose colored glasses stuff :geek:

Oh please. Everyone knows Madden was the testbed for High Def/4K broadcasting.

Tecmo Bowl was the original television broadcast medium.
