Premium DNA Rocket Knight

Man, I like these a lot

There's arcade versions as well

Ehh, they look like McFarlane figures to me, except they're $85. Cool effect parts though.

I like them... but $85 like them? Uhhhh, hell no. I think I'll just stick with the Hiya Toys. If they offered Contra 4, Hard Corps, or any other characters, I would have bitten.

There's something I REALLY fuckin' hate about the shoulders, but I can't put my finger on it. Besides that, they look fine. They definitely don't look like 100 dollar figures, though. Not even with the 'but we're a small company of thieves' excuse.

It's because the shoulder ball is so small inside the butterfly joint that the shoulders sit WAY too low.

I know it's likely game accurate, but the faces are HIDEOUS to me.

For the source material they're aiming to match, which is just the original NES Contra cover art (with alt "no headband" heads to emulate the title menu pose), it's fairly accurate. BUT it's not accurate to basically every single other artwork from the series. There's some sprites and portraits where the coloring and spritework is a bit ugly, but they're decent looking dudes (if not outright pretty) for the most part.

We've already gotten the NECA figures based on that specific artwork, and it's not at ALL my mental image, so I'm fairly disappointed. I could probably source various Classified fodder and generic headculpts on ebay to create both of them for $40 each, and have it look on par with if not better than this.

Contra basic sucks for toys. At least Metal Slug has a distinct art style and personality. You want Toyetic?

The two Contra games I listed get you:

A gritty Ashley Wood heavy washed and textured Bill Rizer, evil Lance looking like M. Bison, and a hot robot girl.

A Wolfman with shades and a leather jacket and a gatling gun arm and cyborg arm. A hot 90s half anime half Homage Studios woman. A cute little robot of death. A Time Cop Cable looking dude.

Even Uprising gets you:

A Shogun Warrior Dude, an anime Exo suit girl, a female cyberpunk samurai, a cyberpunk greaser.

I guess you could argue that the NES game is the most recognizable but that's a pass.

I didn't even notice the posts up there. Oops. I'd do those and Contra 4. I like Operation Galuga a lot for figures because it's the same general designs as Contra 1 with a defined "style" rather than like 7 different art styles to pull from and inevitably end up with somethig stupid and ugly. The unique characters from Hard Corps and the variants from Shattered Soldier are a lot of fun and necessary for "Contra", though. Some day, maybe!

Yeah, those softgoods don't look very good at all, really. But I'm guessing that's preliminary and hasn't been finalized yet.
