One A Day 2.0: Day #200 - Swordsman (Duquesne)

I think it's mostly x-fans looking down on it cause it's rarely as good as claremont's stuff.

And I see the logic in that like. Bendis had the smart idea of "Lets put all the popular people on whats supposed to be the worlds greatest team. So you have spidey and wolverine, and you get a big sales boost.

But i dgaf about any of that, i just want fun superheroes vs fun supervillains

The fun of classic Avengers for me was always that it felt like the drainage point for all of the weird-ass ideas and characters of the Marvel Universe ... the things that make comics (to me) great. Some cases in point from favorite storylines:

... also YES to Swordsman! And not just because I feel like I'd be banished from the forum by Beamish if I passed. Avengers #123 was my first comic, so him and Mantis loom large in my conception of the Marvel Universe.

i love meeting someone that actually likes the Avengers pre-bendis. I feel like I'm the only one willing o give them chances among most of my circles
For me, Bendis is what killed my enjoyment of the Avengers, period. Chuck Austen before him wasn’t any better, but Bendis was the nail in the coffin. It’s why Busiek is my ending line, with the Johns run following a flip-flop of whether or not I enjoy it.
