NECA Mirage Comics line

Got the Sakai turtles and rabbit today. Even by NECA standards the articulation is pretty bad. The whole shell is an overlay which is maybe why the connecting tissue between shell and plastron is so substantial? It kills the hip and waist articulation and the arms are pretty standard. Usagi is a little better, though the knees on mine don't want to do anything. A pleasant surprise though is Leo and Usagi getting vertical hinged wrists for their gripping hands. Not sure why Raph and Mikey didn't get the same.

What works though is the aesthetic. I love how these turtles look and the paint is so clean. Usagi is a damn delight and looks amazing. If you're going to release action figures with very little action then you better nail the sculpt and paint and NECA sure as hell did.

How bad is the articulation vs Mirage?
The hips are more restricted. These new ones can maybe hit a 45 degree angle while the "diaper" on the Mirage turtles (I assume you mean the newest ones) is less restricting. And you don't get any kind of rotation at the hips either. Someone willing to cut away at the material between the shell and plastron could probably open up more range at both spots.

They look like works of art. I suppose posing the turtles has always been a catch with the design. But they look so cool standing there.

They definitely get away with being limited for me. I am so charmed by them, I just need a place to put them.

I'm down to the Lawson Mirage and the Joy Toy. I'm between Sakai or 2012 for the Coloured Bandana rep in the larger scale. Sakai might win on personality. But April with 2012 would seal it.

I mean I'm going to end up with both, let's be real.

Speaking of 2012, that's another set of turtles I have yet to find a permanent home for and I've had them since...December? My home is the opposite of the Playmates CEO "No turtles anywhere" gif.

I don't remember where the Sakai turtles and Usagi were being talked about, but there's a pic of a package mock up of them in black and white. Probably a Stan Sakai site exclusive...which only makes sense given the history of these sets. And then it'll show up at Target in less fancy packaging.

Or not. I guess the Year of the Bunny didn't go to Target...

Time will tell!

A black and white site was a given. Probably a Sakai autographed item, unless he only wants solo rabbits to sell on his site (not because of anything I assume he'd have against the turtles, but only that one figure is an easier sell than a set of five).
