NECA '87 Toon TMNT

The turtles in disguise are probably more of a Target thing. They don't want more sets of ghost Foot ninjas, they want turtles. I'm a little surprised they didn't just go for new base turtles, but they’re probably picking their spot with that. Or they're doing that with Archie first (that's more a wish on my part than a guess).

It's a picture of the NECA booth and someone handling the name tags they put out with product. One is for Robo Tokka and Rahzar with a release date of Q1 and the other is for Ultimate Tempestra with a release date of Q3. It's from a YouTube video in the Robot Reviews channel.

Wonder why they held these back if they had these tags, especially the Robo Tokka and Rahzar.

Also, wonder where the Ninja Splinter will show up.

Still holding out hope on the Kitchen and molecular Krang.

They apparently have the robot duo all packaged and everything at the booth, it's just not out. Here's the video the screenshot is from. The host is...a little much. Probably the exact kind of person a lot of the old school Toy Fair exhibitors can't believe is granted access.

I personally have resigned myself to the fact that most of what we have seen will never come out.

The Donnie's Lab situation and Dipshit McQueef's tariffs killed any chance at the Kitchen and Krang.

We haven't heard a peep about that movie version of Bebop and Rocksteady, nor the Foot Disguise Casey Jones. They have effectively killed the movie line in quiet.

Those Arcade Foot and Rock Soldiers? MIA.

The remainder of the Universal Monsters x TMNT? We know those were squashed.

I just have to accept the fact that maybe none of this shit will come out, because with NECA, at this moment in time, is very unreliable. So, Ninja Splinter, these disguise Turtles, Tempesta...may never even happen.

But let's be honest... those aren't Turtles. Not in the way that matters to someone looking to go to the store and buy Ninja Turtles. If I was a buyer at Target and said 'I want some exclusive Ninja Turtles' and this is what NECA brought me, I would punch that person directly in their teeth.

The kitchen and Krang are definitely in jeopardy. Trevor basically admits that if they can't get the price under $300 for Krang then they won't do it. In other words, they haven't been able to get it under that yet, and with prices going up every day, it's not looking good. I'm also just guessing here, but I would assume the license plays a role in a made-to-order item like that. If they don't renew, they may have to deliver product by a certain date or hit a certain window and it might be just too risky to attempt at the moment.

I actually love this guy’s genuine enthusiasm. He’s a lot better than some of the influencers and seems like a genuine fan and knowledgeable. I mean, sure, he’s not as a “professional” as Pixel Dan, but certainly not the worse influencer I’ve seen from this year’s Toy Fair.

Also, the NECA guy (Trevor, I think) made it seem like the TMNT is continuing. He did mention trying to get that Molecular Krang out this year with a $250-$300 price point. I imagine they’re waiting on the Supreme Court’s tariff decision. If the tariffs get struck down, I’d imagine a lot more becomes possible for these toy companies in the sense of hitting a price point consumers will pay and that they can get a normal profit margin from.

The guy is definitely a fan in a setting that's traditionally reserved for press. I think there's room to be a fan while also maintaining some level of professionalism. Telling the guy trying to sell product "I don't like that Casey," is pretty poor etiquette, even if he was referring to the character design and not the product. Trevor is pretty easy going and seemed amused at times, some people in his position would cut the interview and put the guy on a blacklist for future exhibitions.

Sure, but we also know there's a game of compromise going on. If you walk into Target right now you may fine one or all of the single pack toon turtles, the beach turtles, and the 2012 standard turtles. For whatever reason, NECA isn't ready to do new turtles on that beach body, but has some variants they think will move, and Target is willing to take that. I also wouldn't be surprised if Target said "no more 4 packs." My best guess is NECA has a bunch of turtle ideas and is leading with variants first before giving people what they probably really want. With these ones specifically they're probably hoping for every collector who doesn't want a puffy coat Michelangelo there's another person willing to buy four to customize.

I don't disagree. But speaking form Target's perspective, I'd be pissed off if they wanted me to sell this in the current economic environment, at what is clearly the tail end of this line. And if Target's buyers were smarter, they'd probably just refuse to carry this at all, because it's a huge risk (unless NECA assumes some of the risk with a type of buy-back program, but I don't think they do).

These just feel like the kind of thing NECA would sell in their own store or at SDCC or something.

And yeah, not making the Turtles everyone wants at this point is a stupid, arrogant gamble that actually kind of shows nothing but contempt for the people that have supported this line all along. It's the indie studio mentality I fucking hate of 'I'll make what I want, if you don't like it - don't buy it!'

I could be wrong, but my understanding is Target mostly offers up opinions on what they want to see, but they don't pay for much of the stock. They don't even pay for the cartoon exclusivity, it was just a bargaining chip for NECA to get the retail space. Almost all of it is still vendor-stocked with Target only buying some outright in rare instances. NECA even "recalls" merch that doesn't move and they've been doing those big blind box shipments to get rid of it all for the past year.

Can you spare me from having to sit through this guy, and tell me the time marker that Trevor mentions this?
