Mattel MOTU Chronicles Movie Figures

Those pics really aren't helping my desire to not get invested in another franchise/toyline. They look really cool, even from a more general toyetic fantasy angle.
Even for someone that isn't a huge fan and isn't super stoked about the film, I think He-Man, at least, is worth a pick up. Even if for no other reason than to see what Mattel is up to right now because I don't think I said strongly enough how much nicer these are than anything I expected to come out of current-day Mattel. They feel better, and move more smoothly, than anything I ever got from Masterverse or Classics - or DCUC, for that matter.

Very glad you got these already Damien! It's great to see them in the hands of someone who knows their toys.
Thanks!
I have, in fact, toyed before. Much to my wallet's chagrin.

Man, those look really good. It is almost stupid how amped I am to get these things. I'm glad you found them Damian. And ahead of the release date! I am really impressed with the likenesses though.
My pictures don't do it justice, but the likenesses are really good. The only issue I have with them, and this is more a personal preference thing, is that Mattel went with the tried and true 'bland' expression for two of them. Tri-Klops has a great kind of sneer on his face and I love it. It's actually my favorite thing about that figure. He-Man and MAA look like they're waiting for a bus. Or watching Seinfeld. No expression at all.
Considering these are FORTY FUCKING DOLLARS Canadian, I do think they're a bit sparse. I'm sure Mattel would justify it by saying the money went to paint apps and general quality - which.. sure, I'm not going to spend a lot of time arguing against that, because they look really nice. But I also think swappable heads for HM and MAA, and maybe an extra weapon for Tri would have been appropriate. You guys will be floored by how much extra space is in these packages. There's like an entire hollow cardboard tube along one side where you'd think there would be some extra accessories or something and there's just fat nothing.

Having Scareglow, I can already anticipate the quality of the upcoming figures, and I’m trying not to imagine how they’d implement this with the retrieved DC license. I might get suckered into yet another MotU collection, but I have to refuse DC. I’ve even found myself cherry picking more McF DC lately with “Nicholson” Joker being one of the latest. I don’t even like these figures, but having an “official” Jack-Joker, I couldn’t resist.

But MotU.. I’ll make room for.

I've already resigned myself to the fact I'm going to wind up collecting Chronicles, as much as it irks me to start ANOTHER MOTU collection. I'm on the fence as to whether I'm going to do the movie figures though, as much as I like the overall look of them (except for Tri-Klops...I don't like his movie look at all. Maybe I'll change my mind when I see the film, but something about the overall appearance of his costume is just...weird to me).

I kind of can't believe they're just abandoning the Masterverse style and scale entirely like this. I look at my Masterverse collection and wonder what to do here - keep them? Store them? Sell them? I love so many of the designs, but it's clear this new line is going to supersede them in detail and articulation. And I just don't have infinite space.

Exactly the conundrum I have. Do I just keep the Masterverse display up and slowly replace them with Chronicles? They're gonna look weird together and out-of-scale, so that will bug me, but it will be a while before I have enough Chronicles for a decent display. It isn't that big of a deal with certain characters, especially the non-human ones, if they are a bit bigger. It will stick out like a sore thumb though if Teela towers over MAA though.

I think I am of the mindset of keeping the Revolution/Revelation and 1987 movie stuff, but unload everything else. I don't know. We shall see. I want to see the full scope and direction of Chronicles first.

Every single day I wish that I had kept my full MOTUC collection and only supplemented with Masterverse but too expensive to ever go back now after they're all sold. Someone made me an offer on my full collection that I felt like I couldn't turn down at the time - but I regret selling those figures to this day many years later.

I've never enjoyed Masterverse as much as I did MOTUC. Now I also have the problem of a lot of extra unopened Masterverse figures that I bought on deep clearance that I need to offload and I expect any and all demand to completely evaporate. This is also true for McFarlance DC Multiverse - I've still got way too much unopened inventory that was purchased purely for re-sell that I expect there to be little demand for going forward after the change to Mattel.

Sigh. Live and learn, I guess.

Hey! It’s that new boy band pop sensation: Mojo’s Dreamneudo! Wow. You’re so lucky to have gotten such a candid shot of them. Why, you could sell it to the Bugle.

Hell yeah!! Mine should be here on Sunday, so I figure it'll be Monday.

Mattel starting on two characters I consider to be essentials is the scariest part of this all. Most lines don't get to *my* guys in even 5 years of existence, so I never get a proper on-ramp early. Now I'm just going "Well, if they make Lady Slither I'll get her, she's on the damn box art! They're definitely making her! And if they make a matching Hordak for King Grayskull, I'll get him, and I gotta get another Evil-Lyn, and--"

God, I'm gonna need a better paying job.

My King Grayskulls shipped, so I am hoping they'll be here Monday or Tuesday. While I am very excited about the Movie Chronicles figures, I can't even describe how excited I am about the potential of all the characters being done in a non-movie form like Scareglow and King Grayskull. Scareglow and King Grayskull both look really cool and are very well-done interpretations of these characters.

I can't wait to see how they handle everyone else.
