Mattel MOTU Chronicles Movie Figures

Catching up a bit and looking at this stuff for the first time.

The adult line looks pretty nice so far. Dan going over the articulation for He-Man in that previous video....the head and neck articulation, the torso/waist, the wrist articulation.....all looks solid. (I wonder how long Hasbro ML will rest on their Vulcan buck before giving us something along these lines? Certainly another few years). Battle Cat's armor looks a bit flat, paint would really bring that to life, but looking good otherwise.

Did they give us a price on the adult line yet? It has to be at least $30, probably $35 per figure, right? My whole thing is, if I think they are giving their best effort, I'll entertain it.
The Chronicles figures are actually $26.99 each. And Battle Cat was $43.99 I believe. So, the prices are comparable to the likes of Hasbro's Black Series or Marve Legends.

i really did not think Mattel was going to get me excited for another MOTU line but I’m actually excited for these. My wife is excited to say “let me guess… more he man toys”.

Luckily I have not yet got one of the castle grey skulls she would really love that one lol

Get the Castle but put something she likes as a gift inside the mouth of Grayskull, so it's there for her when the jaw bridge opens. A piece of jewelry, a gift card, something. Maybe that will distract her from being upset with your purchase.

If that fails, tell her you have been seeing a psychiatrist and the doctor prescribed it. If she doesn't believe you let me know, I'll write you something on a prescription pad.

...oh my God.

You're right, I did...

...womp womp.
Now whenever anything goes wrong, instead of the classic "Thanks, Obama" or "Thanks, Trump", I'm just gonna roll my eyes and say "Thanks, Rick".

I gotta say, I'm actually kind of excited for this line too, despite not knowing a damn thing about MOTU. It's been a while since I've really had a new franchise to get invested in, at least one that feels somewhat easily accessible (i.e., not having to learn the rules of a game or something), and lots of prior material to dive into if I like it. I think the figures look great, and at least some of them- like Skeletor, for instance, still feel like classic enough characters to justify having in the collection, regardless of anything else.

I hope we end up seeing the Skel-Knight in the Chronicles line too. Love me a good skele-man.

And I will say, being someone who is a product of every single iteration of MOTU, literally from the beginning (Had the original 8 figures and Castle Grayskull when I was 2 years old)...

The lore is not so crazy deep that it would take that long to catch up on. There IS a lore, don't get me wrong. But we aren't talking Lord of the Rings deep, or even GI Joe ARAH.

And there are several different story variations, but it's simple shit like "Skeletor being Prince Adam's uncle" versus "Skeletor not having a fucking clue who He-Man/Adam is". Just treat it like a choose your own adventure book, and decide which version is your MOTU. My version as a child was just an evil skeleton dude who hated this guy trying to stop him from ruling the universe, but as I got older, I like the familial approach. Kind of felt very Lion King to me, and I dig that.

That’s hot I feel too.

I feel like given what I’ve seen… $30 would not feel desperately overpriced.

The torso and waist and the neck + head articulation AND ball jointed wrists really is like “import level” articulation in a mass market line.
Well the modern day toy articulation has evolved to this level and it appears that this line is giving us ALL the up-to-date articulation.....which is what SHOULD be happening. I get prices increase over time but a company should at least do all it can to be WORTH that price. It appears that is happening here, which is great and it's why I'd consider it at $30 a pop.

But then you have other toy lines that will give you pinless joints one year. Then a few years later FINALLY implement butterfly joints. Then a few years later FINALLY implement upper torso rocker. Hold out as long as they can with bucks that are 10 years old and give you all the new stuff piecemeal over the course of many years while asking for more and more money. "Maybe we'll get to ball jointed waits in a few years, fans, but we just gave you a new buck". Yeah, a "new" buck with outdated articulation. No, I'm not into that as much.
