Mattel DC Figures

And let me tell you something else that's even MORE depressing: DCUC was NOT cancelled at retail due to sales. Sales were fine. The line was selling so well that Wal-Mart was still asking for exclusive waves. No, DCUC got cancelled due to the stupidity of Warner Brothers Consumer Products and DC Comics. DC was getting ready to launch their "New 52" you see, and that's what they wanted to promote at retail. "Classic" anything was no longer in the cards. So that was that.

Oh, the irony. Imagine if DCUC had been going strong all this time. Think about where we would be with the Legion, with the Titans, with the JSA. How sad. The much vaunted "New 52" is now long gone. DCUC died for nothing.

So now Mattel and DC have a second chance. Hasbro has kept Marvel Legends going for 20 years. DC and Mattel can do the same thing provided they can keep from shooting themselves in the foot.
Glad you posted this. It’s been my point all along that I want a DC line with longevity. I didn’t want Mattel to lose the license in 2019 for this reason. It’s also the reason I don’t want Todd to lose it now. I doubt I have another 20 years of collecting in me. With yet another scale change as an extra added bonus.

At least we don’t have to put up with Neitlich, Johns, or DiDio pissing in the corn flakes. I think Jim Lee is smart enough to stay in his lane. I don’t know about Jim’s boss. Whoever that is at this point.

Wait, does the Legion wear their flight rings on their middle finger? Why not on their ring finger?

The Legion Flight Ring is a golden ring engraved with the signature "L" of the Legion of Super-Heroes, and a small star on the right of the "L". It is worn by each member of the Legion of Super-Heroes on the middle finger of their right hand.

Like, I believed you. I'm just confused. We have a finger for rings! It's named for that! This is why those jerks keep getting rebooted.

DC's in a rare good place right now. The comics are selling. Gunn's DCU is off to a decent start. There's positive buzz for Supergirl and Clayface. Things are going so well that Mattel wanted the license back.

Everything should be fine going forward provided they don't self destruct again.

But that's the key, isn't it?

Well, the short answer is, I don't know why they wear the rings on their middle finger. I don't think anyone does. It's a completely arbitrary rule and that's what editor Mort Weisinger was famous for. He liked to hand down edicts.

The flight rings first appeared in Adventure Comics 329 in 1965. The first time Superboy was shown wearing one was in Adventure 333.

I don't think that's an accurate reading if the situation, if I'm being honest.

It’s my hot take and I’ll stick with it for now. Something else to divert resources away from DC. In a company where underperforming executives get multi million dollar bonuses for drawing breath, my confidence is waning.

WWE runs on its own inertia. TMNT does too. It’s a smaller universe with a bigger visible footprint. At least amongst younger demographics. More upside than selling 20 different Batmen and the occasional Nightmaster. To the exact audience Mattel wants.

Well, it is Tuesday.
