Mattel DC Figures

I will say with a casual pulse read on wrestling figures, my big concern about Mattel is their quality control and whatever they've got going on in Vietnam.

It's all just social media, but there are some unacceptable QA issues going on, as well as questionable kit bashing and general decisions.

And it's for everything not just DC. You'd think the WWE would be their crown jewels and the misses are pretty big. I would like them to excel with everything they have shown for the future.

There are so many variables. Before the Marvel Legends Squirrel Girl came out, I would've made an argument for her as a surprise hit, much like Magik in the upcoming Secret Wars wave. Unfortunately, Hasbro sabotaged their own product by half-assing the figure and packing her with a $20 moped. Where does that one fall? By all rights, the figure should've succeeded. Instead, you can find her on clearance some six years later.
My experience is that Hasbro has had a really ugly growth during those years. Even without the moped, consider:

Many collectors finally accepted that that female body was unacceptable and we should get more articulation. They were fine-tuning their face paints into face print. That was the era of the really gummy joints. That figure also couldn't really do anything because of the weight of the tail.

I was really disappointed with it, but it's just one of many figures during that several years span that felt like they were having these ugly growing pains.

One of the best examples of their turnaround to me was going from that fan issue Silk to the two pack, one on the new body. They are night and day in terms of execution and fun, what you would want out of an action figure in general. And even with the face printings to me there was a period where they were kind of doing it and then all of a sudden they really locked it in, but stylistically they don't even fit to me. I know it's a minority opinion but I consider a lot of things pre-2023 a separate line the way they've rejigged their house style.

All that to say I think a new Doreen would absolutely sell gangbusters, and they're stupid if they don't make one for Rivals now that thiccness is unabashedly mainstream again.

Viet Nam...
I've seen an uptick in stray paint marks where there shouldn't be anywhere close to being, like in parts that are bare skin, molded flesh plastic.

They've always had an issue with a certain hip joint style, but then differently designed hips started to have an issue with over tightness. I've seen complaints about Basic knees snapping more frequently (they can be stiff AF). Mattel posted on WFigs message board to ask about the issues being seen with the legs.

Assembly errors, they had a run of DDP with HHH's torso. A bunch of those were sent to Ollie's.

Packaging errors, Ringside Collectibles had an exclusive two pack of Ultimate Edition Steiner Bros. The figures are in a standard UE box bundled together in an outer box. You can't see what's inside until you open the box. Some people were getting a Steiner Brother with the other figure being Target exclusive UE Vader. Ringside had to open boxes and send out the correct figure. My set was fine

Absolutely. I don't want to derail this thread with Marvel Legends or Marvel Rivals chatter, but Hasbro's missing out. Rivals is still hitting 90k concurrent players a day on Steam. I think characters like Magik and Squirrel Girl have exploded in popularity since the game's release.

Don't be surprised if Marvel's new house style for Emma Frost is thicc as hell.

There is leaked wave supposedly coming but most of those styles are too over the top for me. I haven't played any video game in at least 20 years so have a hard time relating to that heavy level of stylization. I will almost certainly be buying the Luna Snow figure but unfortunately it sounds like I'll have to buy yet another Spider-Man in order to get her.

I haven't seen a design from that game that I wanted thankfully.
