Also, Toy Fair is a trade show. It's primarily for retail buyers, not us. There's not much point in showing off stuff that retail's going to have to wait on.

Yeah, I'm glad to have it confirmed that we're getting accessories to that extent. The WWE line at that price point doesn't typically have them, but a superhero line without them doesn't really work. He's got more with him than I had expected.

The Mattel collector line won't be out till next year. I highly doubt they show anything at this weekend's Toy Fair. They may not even show actual figures at SDCC. Certainly, they'll reveal at least the first wave of collector figures at a SDCC panel though.

Correct.

It's not just about what they'd theoretically have -available- to show, as much as it is about what they are -legally allowed- to advertise. I'd pretty much guarantee they are not currently allowed to show off the collector product even if they wanted to and had it available to show.
 
I really like the headsculpts here, at least, which is what matters most to me. The swappable faces included in the Joker figure intrigues me as well, I wonder if that will carry over into the collector's line? The accessories in general are great. If they can make the lantern constructs compatible with the collector's line, it'll definitely be worth picking up any Lantern they do in the "Basics" toyline.

Why don't Origins figures have this level of accessories when they're around $20 now?

Why do these look so.....good?? What a steal. The kiddie aspect and lack of bicep swivels hold them back from being the collector line, but honestly the sculpts, colors and accessories look really fun. These just have a toyetic vibe and feel comic booky too. I bet the collector line is good now.
 
So, I'm not an articulation junky, not that I don't want my figures to be dynamic, but I'm not looking around for missing joints. What I do see are aesthetics that are so much more appealing to me than the majority of what McFarlane has produced. That Superman figure (I'm assuming the armor comes off) looks better than maybe all but 2 of the countless Superman figures released by McFarlane. These all look great, awesome head sculpts, normal super-heroic proportions, and nice assortment of accessories that actually enhance the figures. If this is what the "kiddie" line has to offer, I can't wait to see what they do with the collector line.

Of course, the character selection isn't a stand out here, but this is exactly where they should start with for a kid's line. I hope when they get to the collector's line, they throw us a bone in the first wave to show that they are willing dive in a bit more, but time will tell.

Some people are already whining about how inferior these are to McFarlane when the equivalent product they should actually be comparing to is Spin Master, but it doesn't matter, because Mattel is never going to satisfy some McFarlane fans, and that is fine. I think, to a degree, you are looking at different audiences who want different things. McFarlane Toys is edgy and artistic and its products often reflect that (when they don't cheap out with with poor reuse). I think (hope) Mattel will fall into the same lane as Hasbro, considered perhaps "vanilla" in comparison, but they produce fun, great looking toys, and that is more my speed. It seems to be working out well for Hasbro and Marvel Legends, so here's hoping Mattel and DC can follow a similar path. Of course, I still want universe building, and that where we'll have to wait and see.

Outside of the figures, I'm very curious about the props they are showing. Those certainly don't look like items targeted towards kids.
 
I'm still just fixating on alternate faceplates being a thing on the god damn budget kids' line. Alternate faceplates have been an all time want for Marvel Legends, if that's in the collector's line I'm going to need another job.

All the complaints about "Bring back McFarlane! We don't want these!" have lost the damn plot.
 
Joker and Flash look decent. The other figures look a little gangly in their proportions. In some respect I like the brighter colors but the type of plastic being used in such vibrant colors also makes them look more like kid toys. I realize that's what they're "supposed" to be, but we both know kids weren't screeching about articulation and swappable faceplates.

I think they look really good, but there's a lot of things holding them back from being the collector line. They're missing a lot more articulation than bicep swivels.

Honestly, I don't even think that's true for more than maybe a handful of people. Most of the people bitching and whining will be showing off their Mattel DC collections 2 years from now. The same way some (those same?) people bitched when McFarlane took over and then ended up buying tons of it.
 
Those look pretty darn good, I won't lie. Sort of a nice in-between of the old DCUC and Multiverse. The variety is definitely nice, too. Swappable face plates on basic figures feels bonkers, but if that's the future, then I'm all in! Are those weapons rack things (can never remember what they're called) for the basic figures or the more articulated ones? Eager to see/learn more!
