Mattel DC Figures

I have little sense of nostalgia. I have always connected action figures to comics. The closer the better. In terms of both design and publication of the titles themselves. Where possible anyway.
I do admire your willingness to fully embrace contemporary DC comics. I maintain a DC Universe Infinite subscription, but I really struggle with comics in general these days. I prefer my entertainment to be a little more lighthearted and a little less intense. I also don’t like being preached to whether I happen to be in the choir or not. I did enjoy Batgirls, but with most other series, I rarely make it past the first issue or two.

You and I live very different lives because whenever I see someone wearing clothes they weren't wearing the last time I saw them, I DEMAND answers.
"Who authorized those pants?! I want receipts!" I yell, slamming my fist on the desk like J. Jonah Jameson.

It is perhaps unfortunate that we collectively landed on Starfire as an example in this discussion, whose most famous portrayal is not from a comic at all, and who also has the landmark post-NTT costume run of Actually Not Having Your Hooters Fully Out There in Walmart, which to be fair is a narrative arc I've never accomplished. So while I think she's a likely character to appear, I don't think we're getting NTT Starfire unless it's an online format.

How is wanting something different clinging to the status quo?
lol you complain about change every time a DC line changes. And then make up possibly-imaginary changes to complain about.

Come on, dude: I read all your posts. You practically hold this thread hostage with your *constant* Chicken Little-ing.

I must really be out of the pop culture loop, because that reference went right over my head.

I just choose Starfire arbitrarily.. That’s kind of what I was referring to when I mentioned that some of the more contemporary designs are probably better than the original, but it is what it is.

I think this thread has taught me that Mattel's entire first year should be fully accurate Teen Titans Go! figures, since that is easily the most popular thing DC has done in my lifetime.

Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go!, the cartoons. Between them, that's 14 seasons of TV and a theatrically released movie, with a 10th seen of TTGo in production now. I think the majority of people who know Starfire imagine her with Hynden Walch's voice.

I do think that the Rebirth design is far better than the NTT one and also the more likely one at big box. NTT feels like something you put out through Mattel Creations or maybe even SDCC.

You’re probably joking (or maybe you’re not), but I would be down for that. I thought McFarlane did a fantastic job with Cyborg and I’m disappointed we didn’t get the rest of the team.

I'm -half- joking. Because, seriously, if the metric for making action figures is 'the current popular thing' - well, TTG is the most current and most popular thing DC is doing and has been for 5 o 6 years now.

Oh. Duh. You were referring to the animated Starfire. My mind went in a completely different direction. 😂

At the end of the day... you'll have collectors like me who aren't really reading new DC titles... but want some old school deep cuts, but you'll also have people reading the latest books wanting new stuff... so people want what they want and I should think a line that no one is fully happy with means its a line that everyone likes something about??!
