Masters of the Universe: Origins

I'm the dork who paid for Club Grayskull and doesn't even collect Origins...

I got 2 Hurricane Hordaks today. I love the Origins line, but even I am getting tired of all this Mattel Creations nonsense. I like the cartoon stuff at retail, but what I want most are the toy based, and other non-cartoon looks, for the figures and characters. And they have made that genre of MOTU Origins damn near exclusive to Mattel Creations. Mattel Creations, where they charge more for the figures than the retail figures, charge $10 for a subscription, and charge shipping every time one of these new items comes out one at a time.

Then today, the price went up $5 more per figure.

I wish they'd just finish the vintage collection already. But I know they are going to drag this out. Especially since next year is a movie year for MOTU. I really don't think Origins or Masterverse are selling well. But I feel like they will force the lines to keep going into next year just because of the film, whether they are very profitable or not.

I just hope they do finish all the vintage collection characters before they wrap this all up.

It's not just that we wish/hope they'd finish the vintage line. They -said they would-. And I really do think it's incumbent on all of us, in whatever capacity we're able, to never let them forget that. And, more specifically, to hold them accountable if they don't follow through.

But as I said, even if they do follow through it basically won't even mean anything to me anymore. Because they refuse to make these figures available in a way that isn't directly shitting on their own customers. The drip-feed is insulting, especially in the current economy. No, Mattel, I'm not interested in paying for your Costco-style membership-to-shop bullshit, nor am I interested in paying shipping fees on EVERY SINGLE FIGURE you release because you won't release more than one at a time. Mattel fucking sucks and they need to hear about it from all of us.

Yeah... no chance I was ordering this dumb Hordak variant. I'm down for new characters... so Vultak was one I grabbed. I'm down for the concept characters... would love some new snake men, or give me a filmation character that never made it into the vintage line like King Tamusk or something. But i'm a hard pass on boring junky vintage variants like this guy.

Um, didn't the Hordak/Grizzlor concept sketch 2-pack used to be $29.99 on Target's site? Am I losing my mind? Because now it's $49.99.

I passed on the Hordak variant. He-Man and Skeletor variants are one thing but I'm not enough of a Hordak fan to buy into any more variants of him outside of the blue cartoon variant.

Having recently had to pack up all my MOTUC variants to make space has made me leery of buying any more variants that I know will eventually get packed up as well since I already have the character represented in a more iconic look.

Love that "teen Hordak" head sculpt and would love to get that in Masteverse. It's a little more fun for an action figure than that big hooded head.

Also, props to whoever is doing their photos. They make the toys look fun. From the diorama backdrop and scenery, to fun action poses and small post-work touches like the glint of lighting shining off his weapon:

They should do this for every single figure of every MOTU line, instead of just the Mattel Creations exclusives. Those "black background with spotlight" photos don't really do justice to fantasy-themed figures.

So, now the April 28th MOTU item has been removed from the Mattel Creations Calendar. Which is fine by me, since we just did Hordak. But no more items for MOTU in the month of April. Unless something changes.

So Hordak is still available 17+ hours after becoming available for everyone. Let's see how long he lasts, but definitely another sign that the bloom is off the rose for Origins exclusives through MC.

Take the hint Mattel, get us those remaining vintage, non-variant, characters (Two-Bad, etc).

The only hint these absolute buffoons will take from this is that no one wants vintage MOTU characters anymore and they'll move on to something else.

I opened up the cartoon Buzz-Off and Frosta today. I was happy to see that the promo pics of Buzz-Off that were missing the brown cheek paint were not final. The final figure does have the correct cheek paint.
