Masters of the Universe: Masterverse

Rose Byrne did the voice for Leatherhead in the newest TMNT, and I wasn't even sure whether that character was supposed to be female or not. I'm putting Kristen Wig in the same category as Nancy Cartwright doing Bart Simpson for years until proven otherwise.

I'll be happier if they heavily modulate Leto's voice or over-dub him entirely to create the best Skeletor possible for the film. The trailer makes me more hopeful, but I'll reserve judgement until I see the final product.

It does make me glad I opted in for that Mondo 1/12 Skeletor now though, as at least HeMan will be out that same summer (tail end of it) as this film.
Iirc in the original leather head was Cajun? Like kind of like a less intense Waterboy accent lol

Originally yes. In the last film I seem to remember Leatherhead sounding more Australian than anything. I imagine that's what they get for hiring a British woman to do a cajun accent, or they just gave up and let her do whatever she wanted. They might've even thought that Leatherhead was a crocodile, given those are what's common in Australia.

I like some of the designs in the trailer, and paused on Skeletor just to end up laughing over Goatman's stupid face for a few minutes. Skeletor looks great though, just wish he weren't played by that shithead.

I don't really care for the story ideas and a lot of what's going on, having ANY Earth setting for MOTU is just fucking stupid. It was kind of hilarious in the original movie, seeing all these swords and sorcery characters just in a normal ass town. But jesus christ we don't need to do it again.

Admittedly though, I'm also just not completely sold on any bit of MOTU media I've indulged in, and just prefer the general idea of the mythos. All versions have elements and additions I like, but also so many things that turned me off. I love the Keldor lore, sci-fi fantasy is something I've always adored and wanted to see more of in mainstream high-budget media, especially with a skew towards the fantasy aspect. So many charming character ideas as well. But Smith's show had some terribly fucking annoying dialogue and Netflix Original Series baggage that season 2 thankfully toned down, 200X takes a while to kick off, OG MOTU is a Filmation Cartoon, etc.

So really, not high stakes for me, but I'll enjoy it enough for what it is. Hopefully the Skeletor figure is cool and we get a new Goatman out of this. I like that guy's face. Free my boy Orko, though.

Another random headswap question (as I picked up an extra battle armor He-Man to put that bearded head on a different figure) - anyone have Despara/Adora yet and tried the Adora head on either previous She-Ra figures? I kinda wonder if the Adora head's hair sculpt will allow more ROM than the one the She-Ra figures came with. (Kinda wish the hair was swappable too becautse it might be kind of cool to have the option of hair pulled back away from her face like Despara has.)

Toy Fair in February is going to be so cool, because it is going to be dominated by He-Man. It's already been stated that Mattel will have a huge space and presence, and that MOTU will be their main focus.

I'm sure we will see the more kids driven movie line, and then Masterevrse movie figures for adult collectors, but I hope they still have plenty of non-movie items too for Origins and Masterverse. But I'm just really excited for a big ass He-Man Toy Fair in 2026.

I'm now curious if this film will hook the kids who were into the more recent animated stuff - my nephew LOVED that (not Kevin Smith) He-Man cartoon but when his dad showed him the one we grew up with he couldn't stop laughing about how everyone was in their underwear. It'd be kinda rad for a film to merge two generations of fans somehow.

I was at SDCC the year that they launched the 200X cartoon with Cartoon Network. The MOTU booth was giving out traditionally painted full sized (80's-sized) posters and the creators were there to sign it if you wanted for free. Still miss the days when you used to get free swag just for walking by a booth.

GodDAMMIT. I got Adore/Despara today. Great looking figure. Modular armor? Great. Two head sculpts? Really good. Right leg? Best ROM they've had on a female buck the line. Left leg? SNAPPED OFF on the first fucking move. got to enjoy the figure for literally two and a half minutes. Is it me or are modern hip joints on figures just getting worse and worse all the time? I feel like the one joint I run into problems with across every line I buy is those drop down hips.

Anyway, on the upside, the Adora head fits on the She-Ra body if you want to have her without the headdress.

A relative gave me a Revelations Skeletor I already had and I've been sitting on him in-box for like two years - kinda hoping the new Keldor's spare heads fit on that buck, cos it might be cool to either use his melty skeletal face or even his fancy boy face on that body to create a new look for the old baddy.

There's already idiots upset that Elba is playing MAA, even though he is a great choice for that role
Elba’s awesome. The only issues I tend to have is if there is something that I consider an iconic trait of the character or the character’s design that is changed but that typically comes from a design or story standpoint and not a casting standpoint. And for those instances I will typically still give the movie a chance.

I’m honestly a little surprised Elba wanted to do this role at all. I heard he didn’t love playing Heimdall, though I don’t recall if it was because he didn’t get enough screen time, or he was just tired of genre roles.
