Masters of the Universe: Masterverse

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if these companies just said shit flat-out. "Yeah, we're working on that one" or "no, it looks like that's not covered in our license", etc. Just tell us what's coming that you're excited about, what ideas have been batted around, etc. Would the world end? Then again, the closest we really came to that was the way Randy from NECA used to interact on twitter, and we see how that ended up... But I think it would be more fun, I know I was way more engaged with what NECA was doing during those days. And it's not like Mattel has a licensor to worry about for their own dang property.

I get that they don't want to mention something that might not happen, but if it's IN PRODUCTION NOW, what are the chances it's going to get cancelled before actually being released?

Oh wait, WB did that with the Batgirl movie that was essentially complete.

Nevermind...........

Asked Damon Nee about the upcoming movie line. Specifically asked if there would be Masterverse movie figures and if Masterverse was even continuing in 2026.

This was his response:

"We have a wonderful line of movie products that will be revealed in due time".

So, given the context, make of that what you will.
This almost sounds likes Masterverse is dying which seems insane to me? It doesn’t seem to be killing it at retail but it does seem popular with collectors online.

Making ultra detailed movie figures makes sense but I don’t understand why you’d go with a 5.5” scale. Mixing them in with origins is the only reason I can think of, but I think it’s obvious that “ultra detailed” will never blend well with Orions.

I see both sides of it.

I mean, yeah, they could just give straight answers. But also, giving straight answers basically hands control of the narrative to every random person with a Twitter or Bluesky account, right? If you answer everyone's questions straight, then the only thing maintaining any secrecy in what you're working on is the hope that people just won't ask?

I almost prefer an ambiguous but non-corporate answer like "fuck off, you know we can't answer that so why are you even asking?" It's, at least, more honest and real. And it's true. Speaking purely of 'on the record' conversations, anyone asking about anything that hasn't been revealed yet from any of the big companies has to know they're not going to get a real answer. So why even ask? What's the intent?

Of course, off-the-record conversations are totally different and you do tend to get, depending on the relationship, way more information. But it's not like that's an 'official' response from the company's representative, and you're certainly not allowed to share it with anyone. Especially these days, it feels like toy development is so much more compartmentalized that people are more afraid of what they say privately getting out because there's not necessarily as many people that even know about it. Depending on the circumstances.
