I want to say it's the Avengers connection that's doing it. We (broadly) really seem to want to wrap up those early members, and she and Swordsman are the last holdouts. But that argument might not hold a ton of water as Firebird (also an Avenger) isn't doing nearly as well.

I’m not sure that’s all it is. Mantis has had more media exposure thanks to to the MCU GotG films. That helps renew interest in the character and spark interest in some newer fans. The MCU Seordsman hasn’t had near the exposure yet.
And along that argument, Nikki is an honorary Avenger as well.

Granted. Which again goes back to my earlier comment that this vote was brutal.
 
My two cents: working through the Avengers chronologically, Mantis and Swordsman are the first and most significant gaps you encounter in "assembling" (I kill me) that display ... beyond them, we have some representation of every full-time member of the Easties until you get to Doctor Druid in 1987.

Yes, there are characters who need alternate looks (Hercules) and characters whose figures are hideously outdated (Hellcat), but we have some version of them.

Juanita is the biggest hole in a later, spin-off team's line-up (WCA), and Nikki isn't a fully-fledged member -- Nikki also builds out a team we only have two members of, rather than finishing/ near finishing a roster. To wit, most of the double-digit vote getters are characters who complete rosters or put us a single other character out from complete rosters: Armor, Valkyrie, Psylocke, Marrina, Hepzibah.

The fact that Nikki and Firebird are in the Top 10 at all is absolutely amazing. They beat out runners-ups Magma, classic Moondragon, Pixie and Training suit Kitty Pryde.
Firebird was in the Top 10 in last years Articulated Thoughts Top 10 poll. It shocked me then and it still shocks me now, but I was very glad to see it. Hopefully Hasbro takes her a little more seriously since she is pretty much all reuse except for the head and chest emblem (all depending on which version of the costume they do), she'd fill in gaps for the Avengers/WCA and the Rangers and she would be a very welcomed character for her diversity.
The more Nikki shows up, or any of the original Guardians just makes me happy as sort of a middle finger to Hasbro who says the original Guardians are "too difficult".
The Mantis/Swordsman thing: just make the damn characters Hasbro. After the Wong figure debut, Mantis and Nebula became the comic characters without a comic figure yet had the most appearances in MCU films. Mantis just topped a Facebook poll (well, tied with Jack of Hearts) on a Facebook account Jesse Falcon follows and sometimes contributes to.

Yeah, I’m a little surprised at that, but I’m guessing that’s more of a reflection of the overall quality of the competition than anything else.

I love the Void BAF Namorita as an alternative version of the character, but not in lieu of her iconic New Warriors look.

A satisfactory result. That was some pretty stiff competition.

I admit, for all the talk she gets, I’m surprised Outback Psylocke didn’t dominate.
