Kolchak!!

He played Arthur Dales, first appearance is in Season 5, "Travelers" - he also has appears in Season 6 "Aqua Mala". Founder may be too strong a word? "Travelers" includes flashbacks to an early case...

I remember reading that Carter originally had hoped McGavin could just *play* Carl Kolchak in those episodes. Although that could easily be apocryphal.

Laurel and Hardy are fantastic! Pricey but the likenesses are great, Decent amount of accessories and articulation is pinless standard Monster Force style.

KOLCHAK however looks terrible. DId they not get Darren McGavin's likeness rights? NECA did a pretty good jog with the Christmas Story figures.

I may look for a 3rd party head and put it on the Marcus Brody & René Belloq bodies. Those at least have rumply looking suits.

I just noticed the black light set has the normal Carl figures and Janos, I didn’t notice that set before.

They did not. They have made it very clear that these are from the books. Why? Who knows.

Are they legit using that base body? If so I'm not even going to hesitate to get Kolchak, at least. The suit bucks I have from Monster Force/Soldiers of Fortune are damned near perfect.
Wandering Planet posted this of BigBadWorkshop on the Kickstarter: Hi, we actually share the same factory and work with many of the same designers between our lines and their lines. We've even developed some of the interior parts together... so yes, that's why you're seeing the similarities. Also, it's a great indicator of the quality these figures will be. If you've seen our Laurel and Hardy that just released, there is some similar synergy there. Thanks!

They also said they're going to try and have the suit have a seersucker pattern, if the factory can manage it.

And I feel like that blacklight set was added after the launch, though I could've just not scrolled down far enough. In any case, I think I'm sticking with the three-pack and the boxed figures. If I ordered the two-pack, I'd have a tough time willing myself to open them and mess up the cards. Plus, press pass!

I want to make clear from the start that I AM IN. I'm hoping to get my figures from this campaign. But I just want to add that I feel this "based on the book" stance is really just a cop-out.

First, the book was unpublished when the first movie was produced. Once the movie became the highest-watched television movie, absolutely no one pictured Kolchak as anyone but McGavin, even after the book was published.

Second, if I remember correctly, the book was written from Kolchak's point of view, as a reporter, so he never describes himself. Only in various "notes" does the fictional version of Jeff Rice comment on the nature of Kolchak. He's described as a pudgy, whiskey-swilling, cigar-chomping angry drunk, but I can't remember him specifically described in the book as wearing a seersucker suit and straw hat. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't want to be misunderstood. I'm glad they designed the body of the figure to look like our favorite investigator, but couldn't they have just admitted that they either couldn't (or didn't attempt to) get McGavin's likeness rights?

Maybe I'll 3D print an alternate head for Carl once he arrives. Looking forward to it!!

The thing that gets me is that there is enough of a McGavin likeness there in the sculpt. It looks vaguely of him, but also not. And then the lunchbox that is an add-on is 100% his visage and there's no denying it. So, you have the rights. Make the version everyone knows. You'd sell infinitely more if you went full in on it.
