JOYTOY 1/18 Scale TMNT

I almost certainly will not have mine displayed with the Turtles inside. Most likely hanging off the side or using the weapons or something, MAYBE a driver, but I kind of doubt it. I've got a rather large reshuffle due my whole collection for some expansion and whatnot, maybe this'll help light that fire under my ass to get moving on it.

Also, a turnaround:

That’s my only thoughts looking at the van.

that front seat is really cramped and when they pose the Turtles around the van it’s painfully obvious there’s no way all four of them could comfortably fit inside the thing (let alone the four of them with guest, especially since the Turts aren’t even being the biggest characters in the line)

It really looks great though! I wish it was scaled a little better, but then it’d cost more ($160 is a really good price!) and I’d just make up other excuses like how I don’t want a box on wheels I can’t even see the Turts in when on my shelf, so I’m never happy don’t take design notes from me!

It does make me want to see other vehicles in the line though! (I will never say no to a Pizza Thrower! And I had really been considering getting B&R WarHammer bikes, make them some official ones JoyToy!)
There are two motorcycles for the Battle of the Stars line that look like they were made perfect for Bebop & Rocksteady. I’ve been holding off on buying them, thinking I really don’t need them, but I guess I’ll have to order them now.

On a separate note, I love the style of these figures and hope to see Mondo Gecko and Wingnut eventually, but honestly I’d love to see more characters that have not been redone already by another company, like Walkabout! Does JoyToy have the license to the cartoon, or are all characters fair game?

A few of us have asked similar questions since this line began. Short answer is we have no idea. So far it's all been stuff that was in the toon, but we're hoping. Are some of these little robots more or less original creations, I wonder?

This is, in my opinion, the best Turtle van ever made. Yeah it's a little small but the design and look of it beats everything else ever done. It'll look great sitting on the shelf with the Turtles (going to need a bigger shelf now). The price at $160 is a lot lower than I expected, even for a scale this small.

I ended up passing on the Roadkill Rodney set. A little money saved for me on something that I didn't feel I would miss on the shelf. It will be the first thing I've skipped in this line.

I'll probably display this thing all opened up, someone in the gunner position, someone on the launcher, and someone behind the wheel (April?). The hard part of displaying this will be picking and choosing what effect parts to utilize because there are so many and they look great. This thing just looks fun further convincing me that JoyToy is the most appropriately named company in the industry.

And until we see different, I am assuming their license (or focus) is on reimagined looks for characters from the 87 toon. I'm hoping they can go outside of that, but until it happens I'm not expecting it. There are probably politics at play too. This license is only for Asia, but everyone knows that there are people like us gobbling these things up. If they were to fly too close to the sun with Playmates exclusive characters then they might invite some wrath from other stakeholders. As long as everyone is happy and making money though, I'm sure Paramount is happy to look the other way.

I know there was a hiccup around the time of the Triceraton wave where people on reddit and other places were saying that someone was clamping down on these being sold to US customers. One site I know of even chose not to list the wave publicly and opted to just send links out to people who had bought previous waves. But that went away with the very next wave and I haven't heard anything like that again.

Yeah, there definitely was something going on in that window. It may have just been something as simple as Paramount needing to at least make the smallest effort or even someone in their legal department taking notice and going rogue. Perhaps they called off the dogs because no one was being hurt by this or because JoyToy had nothing to do with how other entities handled product and litigating individual stores isn't worth the effort. Most websites that sell these list the disclaimer that it's only for Asia, but they don't stop you from ordering if you're outside that. Perhaps that's all it took to be in compliance? Plus we know it's apparently not worthwhile for Paramount to go after the stores selling knock-offs and this situation is already better for them since they're getting something out of every figure JoyToy sells.

TMNT has always been way more popular in the states than in other parts of the world to the point where having that market shut out can't be profitable. JoyToy knows this, Paramount knows this, and they must be willing to overlook some degree of malfeasance in regards to license restrictions. Or they renegotiated with JoyToy for a slightly higher fee, but not on the level of NECA, Super7, etc. Whatever the issue, it seems things are back to how they were when this line started and hopefully it stays that way.
