Harvinger Studios, Savage Crucible

I don't think I've ever used ecollectibles before. I think I remember looking at their site once and being like 'feels scammy' and then never went back. DJC gets in lots of good stuff, but it seems like they go out of stock fast on everything. And ToySnowman doesn't get in jack shit most of the time. That guy seems like he'd rather be running a Pokemon and Warhammer store at this point.

DJC is my regular.

As far as I have ever seen, ecollectibles was the only Canuck lead on Savage.

Site is garbage and unappealing. To be fair that's all of these sites to my designer and former webdev eye.

He used to be local to me so I was able to meet up. But then he moved out of the GTA and I found him comparatively slow to deal with compared to DJC and Snowman. Earlier in he was the sole distro for 4H but Snowman came in quick.

I don't know if DJC deals with them much these days.

Either way, I got all my Savage from ecollectibles and no one else seems to offer it.

Edit trivia:

Toy Snowman also took a dive sponsoring US youtubers and brought in lots of US buyers during that window when we would be getting Todd and Hasbro well in advance. Honestly felt like Canadian buyers took a backseat to the almighty dollar.

DJC is stand up though.

I understand they've gotta chase where the money is, but I really don't understand a Canadian store chasing the American dollar. You're never going to compete with BBTS beyond just getting things first, which is super rare anyway so not a very good business model. Canadian stores should cater to Canadian customers because we already have so few options that it's really easy to become a favorite. I'd literally get ALL of my toys from ToySnowman, literally all of it, if they just STOCKED things and didn't price them higher than everyone else.

Just wanna add my appreciation for the breakdown @Dek - thanks for doing the lords work!

Really looking forward to Elric - cant wait to mess with him. Looks like it's going to be one of the coolest action figures ever, seriously.

Good to know Elric might be coming back on their site as I whiffed it the first round & can't find anywhere that isn't pre-sold out.

I understand that's the theory. I'm not convinced it's actually true. Nor am I convinced that if people can generally afford a figure a month that the correct answer is 'we must -release- a figure every month.' You can release three figures. If they all sell out immediately, then you were wrong presuming people wouldn't support that strategy. If you're right, the worst thing that happens is people grab a figure, come back a month or two later to grab another figure, and so on until everything sells out (or sells through to satisfaction).

I think the bigger reason they do this is because it keeps people -talking- more consistently about figures, rather than a big explosion of conversation every 3-5 months when a new drop happens and then the cool period where everyone has said their piece about the new stuff and are just waiting for new releases again.
But, my counter to that is that it doesn't really seem to make a difference. People are talking about SC because it's a really good line of toys and still fairly new. I don't see much evidence that new drops are necessarily driving conversation nearly as much as upcoming reveals. And, as other toy companies demonstrate, you can 'reveal' stuff almost constantly if you're conservative with it.
It sound like maybe you prefer FourHorsemen model. Have you given them a try? :devilish:

I didn't realise how much he had shifted to America until I started watching his return videos that he posts. Posts it's just a little chat and b**** session where he unboxes all his returns and shows you how people scam him or don't. Figure swaps etc

First off, the amount of returns in quantity is staggering for my expectations, secondly, it's mostly American.

I -think- it's because they enter their prices in CAD and let the system do the auto-adjustment for them into USD. Which means, with their free shipping to the US (which also pisses me off) it can make sense to buy from TS in the States because the prices are actually lower than BBTS and you get free shipping.

But again, it's all about throwing Canadian customers under the bus so they can cater more to US customers. Largely why I stopped buying them from entirely.

I went to the Frazetta museum today, and bought two paintings, pre-ordeed Kubla Khan, and bought a few Frazetta comics. I also talked to Frankie Frazetta Jr. (Frank Frazetta's grandson) for almost two hours or so. He gave me insight to some things, not all of which I feel comfortable sharing, and two interesting things occurred.

1.) Rob Post (the owner of Savage Crucible) texted him pictures of the changes to Death Dealer's chain mail skirt and test shots of the new belt as we were talking, and Frankie was kind enough to show me. He also explained they can only use certain things in their Death Dealer because other family members own the right to paintings 2, 4, 5, and 6 and designs featured on those but not on 1, 3, or 7 can't be used. That's why one of the belt buckles on Savage Crucible's initial Death Dealer prototype had to be changed, because it was from painting 2. It's also why he doesn't feel Savage Crucible will be able to reuse many parts for Death Dealer in the future. The sword was already been reused and he said it really shouldn't have been. He said even the feet might be iffy, because of the fact they may be used in paintings he doesn't have the ability to license. But almost everything else is most likely not going to be reused.

2.) Frankie explained to me why if Savage Crucible does Silver Warrior it's more complicated than we think, (He didn't say it wasn't happening, he was just talking about an interesting fact. He also didn't say it was happening.) Rob Post wants to release it as the Eternal Champion character, and to do that he has to license it from both Moorcock (more cock) for the character name and from the Frazetta's for his appearance. Rob Post could release it and just call it something else, but he doesn't want to do it that way. He wants to release it as the character people want, with the name they associate with it. He wants to do it right even if it costs him money to do it that way. So this guy could do it in a way that puts money in his pocket but he feels that cheats the fans of the experience they really desire, an Eternal Champion character called by his Eternal Champion name. I find that commendable and awesome.

He also told me that Death Dealer might be hard to find if you wait. BBTS and other retailers reached out to increase their stock because they underestimated the demand, so it might be tricky getting him after the fact. They might have to do another run, but that run will not come with the special surprise gift.

I asked about a Frazetta sub-line and Frankie chuckled and said no. They're going to continue to release Frazetta figures in the regular line, hopefully a little more often. The horse is considered the third character and Kubla Kahn the fourth.

And as a side note, apparently Savage Crucible approached Danzig about using the Jaguar God name and he wants what was called "A billion dollars." So, if we get Jaguar God it will not be called Jaguar God. Which is hilarious to me. Glenn Danzig is worried about copyrights and licensing fees when he stole the Danzig Skull off a copy of Crystar from Marvel, and never paid them, or Michael Golden who originally drew it, a God Damn dime.

If you can get to the museum really try to go. I had no idea I lived so close. I'm gonna try to make it a quarterly visit. They were framing artwork they had just bought back when I arrived, so there are more pieces to see that I wasn't able to view today.

Great time and fun experience.

Nice, sounds like you had a great day man! Thanks for the interesting info, jealous of your proximity to the museum... If I ever make my way to East Stroudsburg, Im definitely paying a visit!

This makes Danzig sound like a douche by the way, but I don't think that's news lol.

Thanks for the run down, Dek. Next time you should tell Frank to pop over here and give us ALL the juicy details. Much as I dislike his general business practices, as discussed earlier, I've got tons of respect for Rob not wanting to take the easy way out by doing things like putting 'You Know Who' as the name on the package. That's solid and shows a lot of integrity.

I'm really left wondering what the relationship is like between Frank and The Frazetta Girls (his aunt and cousin...?). I remember the kids had some kind of legal thing over the rights to the art. Has it really kept up for this long that they can't work together on these licensing projects to best represent their grandfather/father to his fans? Seems small and petty, if I'm being honest. And that's full-well knowing everyone says both the Frazetta Girls and Frank Jr. are terrific to deal with.

I mean Moorcock and Frazetta are literally their only publicly known licenses (apart from the gridiron stuff?) so it makes sense to do Silver Warrior as a fully licensed release. And Rob has always said that he dislikes those companies that try to skirt around copyrights.

Interesting details about the Death Dealer licensing, I was aware that the rights to the different paintings were split up between his heirs but I didn't realise how that might affect re-use. I finally gave in and pre-ordered the horse before the deadline runs out today. Curious how Frazetta Girl's version will compare.

We touched on the family issues, but its complicated an I am not comfortable sharing even the little details he did. I will say this; he did not speak ill of any family members, even the ones he disagreed with, especially when something happened in front of me. It really boils down to the Frazetta Museum and Frazetta Girls have different philosophies about how to use the paintings.

Frankie has also discussed a potential accessory pack for Death Dealer with Rob, but as of right now it's just talks.

Also Frankie is a big Berserk fan. We were both excited to talk about how awesome Zodd and Skull Knight are. That's my fondest wish for Savage Crucible; to do Guts in Berserker Armor as a figure.
