General Marvel Legends

That Emma is actually pretty cool. Was just wondering how to pull off doing her diamond form the other day. May try getting it to fudge into the 97 display.

No interest in anything revealed for Marvel except, irritatingly, I kind of want the Spidey chain for Ghost Rider.

Anyone else liking the upcoming Avengers 800 cover by Russell Dauterman?

I love this update in classic Perez style. :) I want so many of these looks! I really like this Wanda and we need a modern one of her ASAP. Thor and Storm look cool, Carol needs an update, there are two Valkyries now? Is Quicksilver back to wearing green? Is Nova still wearing this Annihilation outfit? I sold that one because of it's inability to be anything but a gummy mess - but now I feel like I need it.

This poster also shows how out of touch I am with current comics because I don't even know who some of these characters are (and that's on me). Someone on Reddit helpfully named everyone - Lightspeed, Captain Universe, Blue Bolt, Synapse, Starbrand, Manifold, Abyss, Avenger X, Kaluu, Smasher, Protector - all new to me! Also, a Doombot joined? That sounds cool.

I like modern Jack of Hearts - I pity y'all that this costume requires less paint so will probably be what we get. :/ Is Kid Loki still a thing? Didn't know he'd joined as well. Shouldn't Polaris be in here?

BTW - I love that Marvel has the gall to celebrate an 800th issue that is actually issue 34 because they've renumbered so many times. Ahhh, corporations.
This is a neat picture, but it reminds me being an Avenger isn’t so special anymore. It looks as if most Marvel characters that aren’t active villains are Avengers now.

I think it's one of those images that would feel bigger and more important if characters actually aged and matriculated out/retired at some rate. Then it would represent multiple generations of the team and they'd be in legitimately different age groups. As is, I don't know that any character there is canonically over the age of 40 (unless they maybe started as an older character).

I think the closest real life equivalent to something like this would be like the SNL 50th anniversary episode. And there the years on the performers are what add to the weight.

Course, it's comic books. We can only expect so much from media that began as kids reading.

Exactly. I’ve been saying they’re handing out membership cards like crackerjack prizes. Which is why I stop my own personal official headcanon membership with Jack of Hearts. I choose to ignore everyone else. And my shelf, my rules.

I'm in for the Spidey retro wave and will probably pick up Diamond Emma when I see her in store.

Regarding anyone being an Avenger I think one thing that contributes greatly to that is later writers not carrying on newer members, but rather adding their own. Triathlon got shuffled off to occasional appearances in other books, but was never a mainstay again. It's almost like they don't want to touch them. I remember when Bendis brought Sentry on he asked Paul Jenkins if that was cool - he was ecstatic!

While I like that characters like Owl, Hypno-Hustler, and Cardiac are joining ML. I'm also really starting to question how many ML characters do I need to own. Nothing revealed today is of too much interest to me.

I haven't read comics in years. But I'm not opposed to the Avengers maybe having a more fluid membership. Maybe a few mainstay, full-time members, and then they pick up other members for each particular mission. Either because of locale or specialty. Kinda like how I envision GIJoe should be treated.

I'm not a huge Jack of Hearts fan. I find his costume to be just too much. Especially as it's a suit designed to keep him alive. But is as garish as possible. That said, it would be really sad if he finally gets a figure and its this toned-down modern look. I suppose they'd probably make the modern one and then the classic a year later. But if he only gets that modern look...what a shame for his fans.

Modern Jack of Hearts is the only one I’ve read (Geoff Johns era), so that’s the version I’d prefer. The version leading up to Disassemble.
